Does anyone know what a TRI-banded race is?

Seen one on the AW at wolves the other day, and just wondered how is it different than normal banded racing.

    Thanks

Each year there are thousands of horses who can't contest handicaps because their ratings are just too low. These horses then get "banded" together (This is as good a reason as any as to why it's called banded racing) into this regional racing. I would imagine that this tri banded milarky is just a.......well.....actually Im scratching my head here...

Lemme think about it and get back to ya...

Fair Play to the manager of Southwell, who took the time to get back to me on this:
    Dear Wayne,

As you may well be aware there are 3 "bands" within Banded racing A, B and C.
A Tri-Banded race is for three year olds only in bands A, B or C with a weight allotted according to which band the horse is in.
I hope this clarifies your query however should you have further queries please do not hesitate to contact me.

    Kind Regards

So it is similar to handicapping, but it is not actually considered a handicap race.

Gotta love when people take the (usually) short time to get back to people about things like this. You'd actually be surprised with how much you can find out by just asking. Last year and once did year I've contacted the Pipe, Nicholls and Mullins yard looking for information and they've duley obliged.

    Well done Wayne.
