I've been told that Isadora eyeshadows are very good - is that true? Does anyone know where they are sold cos I had a look in a few shops in town [Dublin] today and didn't see anything. I'm basically looking for an eyeshadow that actually lasts, I haven't decided what colour yet - I'm wearing a bright but deep pink dress and I want something to go with it, not pink obviously or any other bright colours like green or blue because I don't want to look like an extra from Strictly Ballroom! What colours would be good to go for?

    Hi Fishie,

First of all, the colour you should wear depends on your eye colour, hair colour and skin tone.

Let me know so I can help you further.

My eyes are blue, my hair is blonde - not bleached blonde, more golden blonde - I don't know how to describe my skintone, it's quite pale I suppose but not really really white, when I am out in the sun I don't really tan but go a more golden colour if that's any help - I'm not going to wear fake tan though because I have never found a colour that doesn't look orange on me!

    Ok Fishie.

Colours that are safe, are golds and browns. MAC do a great bronze-colured eye shadow, it has alost an orangey tint to it whcih could frighten you, but looks fabulous if you just apply to the socket over a neutral tone.

A light pink base with a shimmery grey or black (if the latter, use sparingly) as close to your upper and lower lash lines as possible, and to the socket. Use a white shimmery eyeshadow sparingly just under your brows and on your brow bone to accentuate the shape of the eye.

Purples are good too, and again, MAC do a wonderful deep purple with traces of gold in it called Trax- this over a very light, shimmery gold is beautiful, with brown mascara.

As regards Isa Dora eyeshadow, I found it creased, and the pigment can be a little too brash. Their palette also isn't as broad as other brands such as Shiseido or MAC.

Book yourself into one of these counters for a make up lesson, which costs €25. That €25 can be used to redeem any of the products your makeup artist used, or any other product in store. Well worth it, but book early to avoid disappointment.
