Help Driving me MAD

There is something on my computer im not to sure wat it is spywear or a virus but its a noise which keeps on playing. It sounds like a mokey and drumbeat behind it. Has this happened to anyone else or am I goin mad at the age of 18?

When exactly does it play? Give us some system details please. Did you try restarting the computer? Have you got a viruscan and anti-spyware programs installed and if so, did you try running those?

Yea it goes away when i restart the computer but then it comes back again. As for running Anti spywear stuff ran 1 but didnt do anything tryin another at the mo.

I ran ad-aware & windows defender but still no luck. At the mo its not playing I dont know why but I dont want it to come back. I was thinking that it could be a pop up witch I cant see?

Thats a bit mad! I had something like that but it was PC noise, so it was just a bunch of beeps but kept happening and didnt really know what it was for ages, think my firewall was just crap and let something mad onto my PC.

Have you checked what programs are on start up, you can do this by typing MSCONFIG into Run. If there is anything you don't know, google it to see if its a progam you have installed or a possible virus, you can disable programs from starting up here.

Also try a malware scanner like ewido, if this dosen't remove the annoyance you should use Hijack This to make a log and post it here so that we can see if there is anything wrong.

BTW, if it is an infection of some sort, your firewall probably has nothing to do with it.

Hijack this will give you detailed reports as to what is running on your system. If your really worried and want to do a very thourough check download and run the free trial of 'Hacker Eliminator'. It's free for 30days which will be ample time to catch anything acting maliciously.

Get the latest editions of spybot and Ad-Aware - update the definitions and run them. If you do not have a Firewall (And no I don't mean windows Firewall or Nortons - there both useless) then get Zone Alarm Free. You can then at least start to monitor just what program is trying to access the internet. If it's malware that is what it will want to do...

Get a decent Anti Virus scanner such as Avast free or AVG free ...

Thats assuming you don't have the above software

btw - it would help to know your operating system/basic specs/current security set up/current used browser. Helps narrow it down a bit

Then you should eliminate them, check the boxes in HJT and let it correct them (it will actually delete the registry entries). Make sure you are in safe-mode when running HJT. You should also delete the folders containing the 2 .exes whilst in safe-mode.

The Platform Beep.exe could be Adware.Lop.Process spyware - see here
