    hi,
does anyone know some good hill walks/hikes in the dublin/wicklow area for a relatively inexperienced hillwalker? i have done howth head which i found pretty easy, looking for something that would take 2 -4 hours and wouldn't require major navigation skills, i.e. a well signposted route. i have the right boots though, so it can be reasonably rough terrain...

    thanks

    HI,

Djouce is ideal to start with - and for navigation it has a boarded walk all the way up from the route over white hill. I dont have my sheet 56 with my but have a look at http://mountainviews.ie i seem to recall directions to the car park overlooking the lough which is best to get on the boardwalk.

a shorter one is the sugar loaf ( great ) which has good views, or the sugar loaf ( little ) on the other side of the N11 which is very short ( more scrabmly than hoath head ) - but worth it for views of the coast/bray.

    no navigation due to locations.

have a look at above site though for all the wicklow over 500meter peaks, a few would be suited to you.

    hope this helps !

    :-)

There's a circuit of Glendalough starting off at the Upper Lake carpark, going along the Upper Lake, through the Miners' Village and up the zig-zag path to the wooden bridge. Cross Over the bridge and come back over the Spink. It's one of the walks that are signposted from the Upper lake car park. Paths all the way.

Ive a map of this but its a 400kb pdf so cannot attach, but i think you can download it from either www.coillte.ie or the wicklowway website,

the coillte site has a nice little section on forest walks etc around powerscourt/djouce area.

There's several walks around Glendalough of different grades. The information office will give you a map as, I'm sure, will the office in Laragh. They're nice walks too. The Bray to Greystones cliff walk will only take a couple of hours but it's a great walk on a sunny day you may even see a couple of seals. Or you could go over Bray head down to Greystones and then back along the cliff walk.
