I'm considering changing career and I'm just wondering is there many jobs available in statistics. Presently i'm working in telecoms (i studied elec enginering) but if i was to be honest with myself i have no interest in it. I've started researching a few statistics postgrads in ucd, ucc and maynooth. I was thinking of doing a h-dip (which hopefully i'd qualify for admission as i've done a numerical course) and i'd be interested in hearing from anyone who has done such a course. What is the liklihood of finding employment after just the h-dip? or would one have to top-up the h-dip with the masters to have a reasonable chance of getting a jobs as a statistician? I'd be very appreciative if I could hear back from anyone who has any experience in this field either in ireland or abroad.

I did the masters in Statistics in UCD last year and the H-Dip seemed like a really good course. I am working in the field now in the telecoms industry and there seems to be quite a few jobs out there. Just put "analyst" into Irish jobs and see what pops up. You don't necessarily have to go on and do the masters afterwards but obviously would help your career in the long run. you can also do the masters part-time so it might be worth getting into a company first and getting some experience under your belt. hope this was any way helpfull

Cheers for that sarah, do you know of anyone who completed the h-dip? have they found employment? It's just that I wouldn't afford two years in a row of college? Does anyone know I'd be able to go straight into the masters program anywhere on the back of an eng degree. Thanks again

yea. i know someone who completed the h-dip a few years ago then started working in the pharmacuetical area. she then went back to complete the maters four/five years later.

the best thing is if you ring the department or try ringing postgrad office in statistics department and talk to some of the students.
