Pl/sql where can i find a free compiler ??

I'm not sure compilers the right word but anyway . I'm looking for a free version of oracle sql plus 8.0 if one exsists else a free alternative that i can use to write pl/sql in .

Also while on the subject if anyone has come across any good pl/sql tutorials links would be great thanks a million guys

I have 8i on disk somewhere if you want it but don't write off 9i Lite which you can d/l from http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/lite/htdocs/winsoft.html (this is a link for windows up to 2K).

Also in terms of PL/SQL tutorial links - any particular area?

You could try SQL Developer (http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/sql_developer/index.html), which is free. Although, it will only connect to 9iR2 and higher databases (apparently - I used the beta, Raptor, to connect to an 8.1.7 database).

SQL*Plus comes with the db client, which is required if you (or your application) are not using JDBC. I wouldn't recommend using it for developing PL/SQL though - it's really only intended for running queries. (To be honest it's not much good for that either :rolleyes: ) If you have the client installed, you should be able to run sqlplus from the run dialog (or the command line).

You can also try JDeveloper (http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/index.html), but that's probably a bit heavyweight if all you want to do is develop some PL/SQL code.

The Oracle PL/SQL reference can be found at http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/appdev.102/b14261/toc.htm, but it may not suitable if you're just starting out - not a bad thing to have though.
