Owen Finnegan for Leinster?

Rumours on an Australian rugby web site say that Owen Finnegan is likely to 'join his Randwick mates' at Leinster.

Finnegan is the Aussie lock/flanker who ran 50m to score the clinching try in the 1999 World Cup final but that was seven years ago. Last season he played for Newcastle but apparently didn't cut the mustard there. With Bryce Williams moving on and Malcolm O'Kelly getting on, Leinster needs some new locks but is an Ozzie with a worrying whiff of the 'has-been' the answer?

I've never been a great fan of SH players who come to Europe to pad out their pensions, but he may be able to fill a gap for a year or so.

Do you have a link to the site?

It's on the Rugbyheaven site, sister of the Sydney Morning Herald. Scroll down to the 'Rumour of the Week' heading.

I've just been in touch with a mate who's wife is from Newcastle and he's a big fan of them. He's heard nothing and apparently Finnegan is getting regular play there still.

Well I seem to remember reading in a UK newspaper that Finnegan was on the way out of Newcastle. Though it didn't say where.

Granted. THis is all rumour and idle speculation at hte moment.

Don't think I'll be getting wildly excited about the prospect of OF coming to Leinster. Brink back the barnhall bruiser and put him beside MOK and let the battle commence :D

god that would be brillant if they could bring Brennan back, However I dont think he would ever come back the way they have treated him, He seems to be very settled in Toulouse owns a bar and all.

MOK and Reggie really need to think of going out gracefully,

Looks like he might be after all:

    From Leinsterrugby.ie

On Owen Finnegan: “I believe that Owen would bring a maturity, aggression and experience for the likes of Jamie Heaslip, Niall Ronan and the next crop - like Kevin McLaughlin which is important.”

Heard this a fortnight ago. Looks like he is definately on his way in. He'll only play though during the times then our internationals will be away for International duty. Besides, has anyone forgot that we have Trevor Hogan replacing Williams and Keogh replacing Miller. Get with the times people!
