Question about IPX

What is it? All of the Westwood Command and Conquer games only support IPX multiplayer, even the most recent one Red Alert 2. The only other games I've ever seen support IPX are the old Novalogic games like Delta force. I've seen unoffical tcp/ip patches for delta force but no such luck with c&c.

I play lan with my friend and it'd be great to be able to play the command and conquer games - c&c Generals (only c&c game to support tcp/ip) is good but just not the same as the westwood classics...

What is it, and is it easy to obtain? I assumed its a pci network card...? Where would I get one?

    thanks.

I dont quite understand what you are looking for, but this may help.

IPX/SPX is an older networking protocol that runs over the same networks as TCP/IP. You can use IPX on a local LAN but not over the Internet AFAIK.

To add IPX/SPX in Windows XP follow this guide:
    http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp/network_protocols.htm

The method for doing this in Windows 2000 is very similar, in Windows 98 you go to the control panel > Network and then click install > protocol and IPX/SPX.

It's a networking protocol. I haven't seen or heard about it in games for some time.

To install it (working off memory here, as I'm not in front of a windows box) you go start->settings->network blah->right click on your adapter->properties->add (choose IPX).

    GL HF.
