Thinking of putting a few quid into my rig.
Should i go for a second 7800GTX with SLi or what about a new 7900GTX?
Also if i go with 7800GTX SLi do i have to get exact same card and manufacturer?

A 7800GTX in SLI will of course be more powerfull as long as you play games at high resolutions with AA/AF enabled, while the 7900GTX is an improvement over the 7800GTX its not better than two of them. Though SLI isnt really all that useful at lower resolutions like 1280x1024 or lower but future games (& one or two current) could benefit from the power at that resolution.

No just as long as its a 7800GTX* of course.

*There were two 7800GTX's a 256MB and 512MB edition you need the same memory size version but I assume you have the 256MB version as the much higher clocked 512MB version was quite rare but just a warning in case.

What res do you use, I cant see any point in getting 2 cards if you dont use mad high resolutions

Unless you have a 30'' TFT and want to run games in 2560 x 1600 or somethig crazy like that, then imo its pointless getting two 7800's or 7900's.My 7800GTX(512) can handle any game with AA and AF on in 1600x1200 without breaking a sweat at all.Iv a 20.1'' TFT and the native res is 1600x1200 so this card is a perfect match for it.What about ram or the cpu ?

If you want actual benchmarks see Digit Life's 3D March 06 Digest it doesnt have the 7800GTX 256MB SLI but the 7800GTX SLI listed is the 512MB edition which was more powerful but you can put it in the same ball park as that to give you an idea.

    Honestly, why?

Put the money in your bank account so that in a year from now when your machine actually needs an upgrade you can get a decent one. Going from 4200 to 4600 isn't worth it.
