    Dear members,

The spring is here and the weather is improving. So to kick off 2006 we are organizing a run for all members through the spectacular scenery of the Co Wicklow. It will take place on Saturday the 6th May. We are going to travel along one of the best driving roads in Ireland which will be easily accessible to all of our Leinster branch members. To take best advantage of these great roads we will go early before traffic builds up too much. The route will be from Kilmacanogue in Co.Wicklow then through Roundwood, Annamoe, Laragh, Glendalough, Wicklow Gap and Hollywood then on to Russborough House Poulaphouca. Lunch will follow at Ballymore Eustace before an early finish to allow us return home.

We will meet at the car park of the Glencormack Inn in Kilmacanogue village (just off the N11) at 9:00 am for a leisurely cruise along the R755 to Roundwood then on through Annamoe and Laragh to meet up and regroup at the carpark in Glendalough. We will have a short break to use the facilities or have a look at St Kevin's round tower and monastery.

We will then leave the car park at approximately 10:15am and head up and over the Wicklow gap (R756). This is a fantastic road with a great road surface and spectacular scenery. On a clear day you can see for miles. The decent down the other side will bring you to the village of Hollywood. Just a few miles further along the N81 is Russborough House Poulaphouca the home of the famous Beit collection of paintings( http://www.castlesireland.com/russborough.html ) . We will regroup there and can spend a short while enjoying the gardens (which are free) or exploring the house (€6.00).

At 12:00pm we will depart to the Ballymore Inn at Ballymore Eustace for a quick lunch. This pub serves delicious pub grub which we plan to use but if anyone wishes there is also a restaurant attached which will cater for those who wish to stay on and enjoy a slightly longer rèpas. Please feel free to contact them directly to arrange this if you so wish.

After lunch we can disperse in our own directions to head for home. Dublin bound traffic can use the N81 through Blessington then through Tallaght to rejoin the M50.

Last year an interesting article was published in the Irish Times Motoring supplement which describes this route, it makes for interesting reading and is attached here to tempt you into coming along !! Just click on the link below.

All cost will be payable directly by each party and of course, times given above are a guide and can be flexible.

Please confirm your attendance by e-mailing or phoning John McGinley ( john@mcginley.ie 0862547855 ) with your Name, Car details and number of guests travelling with you. Please also give a contact phone number, just so we will not be waiting around in the event of a no show on the day.

    Happy motoring

    John McGinley
