Entered into the 500+50 Celebrity Poker Tournament at the Merrion on the 13th/14th.

Does anyone have any idea who the hell is playing in it? I hear ken doherty and brian mcfadden - but they are regulars. Good shot its a load of it.

Just got a press release from the Merrion about this event...

The prestigious No Limit Texas Hold Em Freeze out with a EU 500 buy in is expected to draw in 200 players, creating a EU 200 000 prize pool. Players from all over Europe are traveling to battle it out for the top prize.

Errrrrrrrrrrm, no... 200 players would create a €100k prize pool, not €200k!

Snooker world champion Ken Doherty, Boyzone star Keith Duffy, undefeated super featherweight boxer Bernard Dune, comedian Tommy Tiernan, former Man Utd and Rep of Ireland International Paul McGrath, and Barings Bank’s Nick Leeson are all registered to play.

I've played with Ken, Tommy and Nick before in Fintan's games. Ken and Tommy can play, but Nick is utterly atrocious! I wouldn't expect Paul, Bernard or Keith to be too tricky at the poker table, much and all as I respect 2 out of 3 of them for their achievements in their chosen sports!

Seats are still available please contact the Merrion Casino (01) 662935 or visit www.celebpoker.com

Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrm, the Merrion's phone number actually has a pair of 2s ... the second 2 goes between the 3 and the 5, making (01) 6629325!

Sorry, I was a sub-editor in a previous life, before poker found me.

p.s. Registration fee (not mentioned in press release) is €50 for anyone interested.

Does anybody know who won this? It was an excellent tournament but a bit short on celebrities - only about 50 players in total. Very good standard overall - there were a lot of scandinavian, english and american players visiting who certainly knew how to play.
I crashed out at 5AM with 8 players left when I called Nick 'Rogue Trader' Leesons re-raise all in holding QQ. He had K6 and managed to hit two kings and a six on the board. It wasn't the first time he needed to get lucky.
Obie was chip leader, Tom Hanlon and Alex were also in contention. First prize 10k.
It was my first time visiting the Merrion since christmas and it looks like things have really turned around in there for the good. Bernard is now cardroom manager. Will probaly return on Tuesday for their new 100 double chance which starts at 8.

All I've heard is that is is starting this tuesday at 8PM - start with 4000 chips and take the other 4000 anytime you like. Their website is crap so you are unlikely to find any further info there. They seems to be getting good crowds in there again.
