    Guys

Hand played the other night. Four 9's dealt on the board. Two players. Player holding an Ace (ie the high card making 5 cards) declared the winner. Is this correct given that a poker is one hand that cannot be improved upon by a fifth card?

    Ace kicker takes it down

Are you suggesting that the river was not dealt because the player holding an ance could not lose the hand? If so the river must be dealt anyway because if the river is an ace it is a split pot.

assuming its texas holdem we're taling about here, the aim of each player to to make the best 5 card poker hand out of the 7 available (5 on the board plus two in the hand)

a "poker" can be improved upon by a fifth card. 9999A is better than 9999K etc

And the river has to be dealt to ensure everything is fair. If a 5th 9 comes out on the river I think everyone will be a tad suspicious. Thats why you also have to show both cards when claiming a pot.

    DeV.
