Super film, it has been a long time since I enjoyed animation so much.

    Anyone see it yet?

Loved it! Thought it was better than Spirited away. I've been seeing more and more of Hayao Miyazaki's films around the place, must pick up a few. These are the only two I've seen.

I am a big fan of Miyazaki but I just couldnt get into this movie at all. Teh story seemed all over the place and very mixed up.

Did you guys watch the English dub or the Japanese version with subs?

I watched the fantastic English dub (Bale's the ****) and got into it fine. The story is a bit all over the place but no more so than any classic fairytale.

I was expecting a lot better actually... but it's still very good. Studio Ghibli has done a lot better in the past.

I thought The Cat Returns that was also released in the cinema here last year was more enjoyable.

I'm usually all for subtitles, but I was interested to hear Christian Bale do animation. I must watched the subbed version soon.

True, loved that film when it came out in the cinema.

Howl's was excellent, even the English dub was damn good, even to the point where i prefer it to reading the subtitles. Things did seem a bit all over the place though, especially
that whole missing Prince thing that completely solved itself at the very end with "i was the scarecrow all along".

    Preferred Laputa though.

Japanese is wrong with english Dubs imo, subtitles all the way.

Howls Moving Castle is an excellently animated with great charecters, and storyline, and the world is brilliantly done, however I prefared Spirited Away. Princess Monoke is another one of Miyazaki's films which is meant to be worth a watch, havent got round to it yet myself though, imdb link here:

Mononoke is my fave Miyazaki. Definitely worth a watch. Probably a bit more straight forward story wise than Spirited Away or Howls.

I disagree with the whole subs argument for most japanese animated movies. Once the script is translated properly and you have decent actors doing the voice overs then it's fine. It's not like a live action movie where you have the distraction of peoples mouths not matching up with what they are saying. They never really match up in animated movies anyway. As long as its not as bad as the dubs for either Akira or Ghost in the Shell, then they're fine.

Dubbing on a film with real actors is horrible but for animation it works fine. Havent seen HMC yet so cant comment but how anyone would want to watch spirited away with subs is beyond me as the dub is near perfect.

i agree..thought the dub was very well done with SA.. dying to see HMC

I definitely preferred this to "Spirited Away". Using Bale was an inspired choice and the charming animation of the story had me captivated
