Gee... that sounds like something in primary school... 'my first visit to the zoo" ;)

Anyway.... my first attempt at HDR, this is Ballybunion, County Kerry.

I know the HDR is not ideal for the colour of the sand, but I was just messing around really to try it out, and this was the most recently bracketed series that I had.

was it an image that warranted the hdr treatment in the first place? Could you post the original? To me it looks like the saturation was ramped up and a little bit of contrast was added...

Not saying that I'm any expert on hdr of course :D

One of the bracketed images.... more on Flickr Stream.

Yeah thanks for that point, that was kinda what I thought too. I didnt warrant HDR, I just wanted to experiment. I thought about adjusting the saturation in PS after running Photomatrix but thought that kinda defeated the exercise... thought would get feedback first and then see.

I have tried to do about 40 HDR images and
the colors do not look like that in any of them.

In what incrememnts are you bracketing ?

And same question as Fenster, did you change
many settings in photomatrix before you
    generated the HDR ?

I'm interested as I wan't my images to have
crazy colors like that but without doing it in
    photoshop.

I bracketed 2 stops over and under. So had a total of 5 shots, and then pretty much let Photomatrix do its thing...

Like I said, I thought it was too much and was going to PS it to remove some saturation after but thought I would leave it for the moment.

Is there some I have missed? Eek, cant see it, mostly cos my own laptop is so dusty... where do you see it CrowdedHouse?

Ahhhh you mean the one in the middle of the sky at the top? the blotch? Hmmm long story, my poor camera arrived from Canon full of dust and sensor blotches, the AF-screen itself was marked on the inside. Sent it for repair and it came back dusiter. This is the cleanest it has been since I have it... that blob never went away :(

    :(

Yea that's it ok,there's also a similar one about 1/4 way in from the left on almost the same line.

Total PITA,I'm gone paranoid about changing lenses !

I don't know if you have a 350D but when I got mine the bloke suggested getting an AC adapter because when you plug it in to the mains and it earths it, it reverses the polarity or some similar sounding gobbledegook - basically meaning that instead of attracting dust (like a telly) it repels it.

Or am I being a sucker and listening to the wrong advice? I haven't actually bought an adapter yet to try it out...

Ohh sounds interesting... not sure though... Anyone got more info on this...

Re changing lenes, I wouldn't be too paranoid, I never change mine as I pretty much use my 17-85 all the time, and my camera is still a filth bag.... not impressed!! Copper Hill cleaning for me /off to ebay i go.

Here is a PS'ed version minus the blotches and reduced saturation, I think it is better than the original HDR.

I was actually going to suggest the first one with less saturation - that latest one is better by far imo.

I don't know. I thought the whole idea of HDR was to equalise, to coin a phrase, the tonal range. Your pics seem to have blown out the clouds and the sky. Maybe I'm missing something.

I prefer the original but could see a use for the HDR version on a poster or ad with some text added.

    Interesting experiment tho'.

Yep it's a cool picture with or without but it seems kind of weird to apply HDR to a picture with detail in the shadows and highlights, and end up with something that's totally blown out in the highlights and has no detail in the shadows. Is it just me or is that kind of backwards?

Anyway happy mistakes are never a bad thing. :)
