    Evening all,

I have a full car drivers licence for the last 10 yrs.
Im gonna get a bike in the next few months.

Do I need to apply again for a licence todrive a 125cc bike?

Had a look at the FAQ but the wording isnt very clear.

    Thanks
    Wavey.

Yes you do. The full car licence only allows you to drive class M vehicles (bikes up to 50cc).

For anything else you'll need to apply for a provisional. You'll also need to do a theory test (ya, crazy but true).

    Thanks for the info Seamus.

It's a crock of sh!t. In the UK the full B is automatically an A (or is it A1?) provisional and one need not even apply for the learner licence. It's just a way to extract more money out of us.

I disagree. Allowing people who can drive a car to automatically drive a bike is asking for trouble.

That said, there's little to no difference between a provisional A and a full A except the test. Anyone can still hop on a bike.

Not so. You need to do CBT for any bike, irrespective of the car/bus/truck licence you may have...........

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Yes, but you don't have to go and pay the DVLA another £20 for a provisional A licence to start your CBT. The full B licence suffices for this.

    Cheers lads,

Do I need to send in my Full licence with the application for a provisional Bike licence?

If so will I recieve a Pink (Full) licence in return? or a Green (prov.) one?
Actually is a prov. licence green?

    thanks
    Wavey.

Yep, you'll need to send in your most recent driving licence or provisional licence and they'll send it back to you with your new (light blue) provisional. If you have time, nip into the Motor Tax office and they'll eyeball your existing driving licence and hand it straight back to you and give you your receipt for your provisional (good enough to begin driving on). That's how I did it and Carole Nash had no problems with me getting insured on the receipt.
