ok so when windows starts up, a get an FD error, in a little pop up window, with ok in it.

then all the (on a laptop keyboard) letter are the alternatives, like 'O' becomes '6' when typed.

    any ideas please?

    windows XP
    service pack 2

    Okay,
Can you give the full error message?
Have you installed any software/hardware just before the issue started occuring?
Anyway, to stop the keyboard doing what it is doing, check to see if you have a "Fn" key on the keyboard. Look for a "Num lock" labeled key.
While holding down the Fn key press the numlock key-this should resolve the issue with the 6 and 0 etc.....

sorry for the vagueness its a friend over the phone type of deal lol

any ways he says the window's title is

    FDMan

    with

    exec FD error?

written in it. Ive got him to do a system restore, and will tell him to try the Fn Num combo.

    EDIT:

    system restore fixed it.
    thanks!
