    Hey

I am going to Boston for the summer with a Mick Andrew & Maire. We hope to take our bows with us, as there is a range nearby:D

I have never taken my bow abroad before, is it difficult getting bows on the plane & through customs?

You'll have to check them in (got a hard case?), and you'll probably have some questions to answer over there. Shouldn't be that big a deal though.

If you have an IAAA membership card (or whatever), might be no harm to bring it along also.

Im going to get an Aurora city pack, its not a case but more of a reinforced rucksack, its ment to provide sufficient protection.........

    No problems at all....

Just make sure you have a good case. The Aurora city pack is very good. I went to Holland with it and there were no problems.

I did go to america and Holland with one of the Black cases that everyone else has.

Aerlingus broke two arrows and ryanair broke two aswell.

Did you declare that you had a bow? How did the arrows hold up in the tubo?

Last time I travelled I just taped the handle together, and sent it on it's way - if I were doing it again, I would get a ****load of packing foam / bubble wrap, and pad everything. Pad the *hell* out of it.

When i took mine to India i just Wrapped everything with bubble wrap and taped everything up and it was grand. Did however put a ****load of fragile stickers (as you may have noticed) so they have to by law bring it on and off the plane by hand. And if you're not totally sure about the case standing up to some punishment ie being flung onto conveyor belts etc then go with the fragile stickers.

And you dont have to declare anything and so long as you have a valid electronic passport and your iaaa somethin or other with your name on it you should be fine. Oh and have the name of a range nearby where you'll be staying just in case cos they asked me stuff like that.

Cos mine's a compound they had to lock it up in a cage in the hold and silly stuff but unstrung and in bits yours shouldn't be a problem, just tell them at check in whats up. It really depends on the airline.

When me n noel went over to holland (and rynair broke arrows on him) i was using the mother of all cases... it weighs a ton not the most efficient choice!
I brought a roll of tape to wrap the case... if you can wrap the case (if its a hard case) do it near ends covering the locks just to discourage the case from popping open (they'll get thrown about no matter what stickers you put on them!)
with the aurora you should be ok... was thinkng of getting me one, for the ease of travel now that my gear is here!
suppose you can put a lock on the zips? stick a bit of tape around the tubeo? more for peice of mind i suppose?

I'm not really worried about mine.. been away with the old soldier about 5 times and no harm has ever come!! fragile stickers dont really work too well cause on a trip we all saw our cases being fecked with quite some force onto the plane with no regard what so ever.. I think they did it on purpose!!! ah well! mine survived anyway!! :D
