Can a lense be damaged if the zoom is used while taking a shot.

I've started to zoom in long exposures ,but the lense I was using aperture changes while zooming so I hope I didn't break it or anything ????

highly doubtful.. if that was the case, a good percentage of the worlds lenses would be binned by now.

I doubt you can break something with that, in fact you can create quite cool "tunnel" effects with it.

I wasn't sure whether the aperture motor that keeps it closed would get damaged as I zoom in or out while it's running ,thanks.

EireRoadUser sounds like you have a zoom for instance 70-200mm with f2.8-f4, at the lower zoom range 70-100mm it would be f2.8 and when you zoom 100mm to 200mm the aperature will change to f4. You could buy a zoom with a constant f2.8 throughtout the zoom range which would be 70-200mm f2.8.

A quick trip to your local bank with a balaclava and a sawn off will make this possible :)

Ì was really just concerned about the diaphragm
I wasn't sure if the mechanism that holds it closed got damaged if the lense zoom was used during the exposure.

The lense I'm using for it is a 24-85 3.5-4.5 so there isn't a hell of a lot of movement ,but I don't want to break it thats all.
