problem when starting up computer....

    I got my computer sorted out today and installed windows xp on it.
    I managed to install it by booting and installing with the cd........(changing bios settings to load the cd rom first etc and then putting the xp cd in and when it says "press any button to continue",doing exactly that and installing it)
    However when I put my computer on without the cd(seeing that xp is now installed on my computer) and changing the bios setting to load up the C drive first and then I think the cd-rom etc,when it gets to the first windows xp loading up screen (the one with the 4/5 blue squares running across the screen a few times) the screen goes blank for a second then it simply just restarts the machine ALLOVER again and again goes up until that point and the machine starts again.....
    What can I do to stop this andd just let it load up properly?

    I think you may have missed a step ?

    When installing XP;
    You get the blue screen segment that boots from the CD, this copies the setup files across to the HD.

    On the next reboot it boots to the HD (you leave the XP CD in the drive) & get the XP loading logo from there the OS installers starts up and takes you through the motions.

    After thats done it then reboots once more and then finally into the OS.

    If you did all that then it sounds like something else is the problem I would try checking the system RAM with Memtest+ from a bootable floppy or USB stick & see if any defective RAM is the cause of the reboots. Leave it run for an hour or two if it reports any errors then some of your RAM is faulty.

    It went through all those stages and although i changed the setting in the bios to load up the C drive then the cd-rom etc it didnt make a difference

    Right, the boot order should be CD-ROM, then C: drive, then whatever.

    Don't change these settings after you install XP, just make sure the CD-ROM is out of the drive after installation.
