Passport application - returning old one

    Hi,

My 10-year passport expired last month so I'm applying for a new one. Only just found out that you've to submit the old one so they can invalidate it - and as far as I can tell you don't get it back. Want to keep the old one if I can - took me 10 years to gather all those stamps!

Would it be super-bad to pretend that I've lost my old one? There's a section on the application form which covers this - but you've to supply a description of how it was lost, and it's to be signed by a garda.

Anyone ever done this? What reason did you give? Does this amount to fraud?

The missus just renewed her passport, they returned the old one with the corners cut off.

    X.

I got my old one back, they snipped off the corners on the cover to show it was invalidated

10 days by passport express. 4-6 weeks by regular post.

if you do it in the passport office in the city centre you can get it done it ten working days without paying any extra. and you can arrange to pick it up from there to save postage time
