Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hey,

Recently bought a 48 key usb keyboard, want to use it with Reason to hopefully put some tunes together in the long term future, can anybody recommend a good book or give tips on starting how to play the keyboard

Id say get urself a decent book to start with either from amazon, local music/book shop or your local library. Most have simple beginnings on the notes of the keyboard, playing in different keys, basic theory and basic fingering to get you started. Using keyboards with reason isnt that hard, you're prob only going to be playing one note synthy stuff so just sit down and get messing! If you just start by playing the white keys only everything you do will be in the key of C which is a handy place to start with keyboards, worry about the black notes later. The simple trick to getting good and fast is practice so try and learn a few tunes from a book and keep practicing them until you get used to moving your fingers around. Its not that hard an instrument to play but you've got to put in the time and you'll pick it up fine.

I havnt used any books in about 15 years but a quick amazon search gave the following:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/search-handle-url/index=books-uk&field-keywords=keyboard/ref=xs_ap_l_xgl/203-1958126-1077514

Good luck and if u need any specific help or anything give me a shout.

pclancy is right - just stick to the white keys for starters. You could also try playing chords on the white keys. Here's a link to some chord info - http://www.telacommunications.com/nutshell/music/index.htm . Ignore any chords that use black keys for now. Here's a bit more info on the layout of the keys - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Musical_keyboard .
TBH the best thing is to just get stuck in - your ear will tell you if something doesn't sound right!

    Cool links crosstownk!

Love that XV88 you have too. Any links to any music you've made with it?

No, unfortunately! I'm in a covers band so I tend to just play the keyboard tbh. We have a "no MIDI or backing tracks" policy in the band. I don't get enough time on my own with the keyboard anymore - work, kids etc:rolleyes:
I've some stuff recorded but it's on an old PC thats in the attic - must dig it out.
