Most shopping websites seem to ask for your phone number when you're ordering. I order stuff online all the time, and I have never once recieved a call from a website.
Has anyone ever recieved a phone call from a website?

    Once, from http://www.louis.de

They are a HUGE German bike retailer, but they managed to hold onto the small shop feeling.

I have ordered from Interflora in the past, who ask for the recipients number. Each time they recieved a call from the courier to ensure they were at the address given before delivering.

I presume this would be the usual reason for asking for a number.

I've gotten phone calls from Thomann about an order of mine.

Got a call off one before, some payment issue. Got it sorted anyway.

I'm guessing it's just a precaution incase they need some information off you and can't get hold of you otherwise.

Yeah I used to get calls from various stores at buy4now.ie or couriers wanting to get directions and so on.

It can also be used if the retailer has to have the transaction authorised by your credit card issuer, who may ask for it.

I've gotten calls from delivery people alright so they pass the number on, presumably.

I think it's mostly a case of "why not ask for the phone number?"

The programmer probably decides when he is creating the database/forms, and the manager says "that looks grand".

I doubt there is a policy in place in most cases!

i'd imagine they'll put the number on the parcel aswell in case the courier has dificulties finding your house.

i know they do with mine despite living on a main road :(

I'm on first name stuff with the guy who delivers GLS stuff around here on account of buying stuff from Komplett and needing directions.

We have a special bond. Nothing sexual you understand, just a shared love of delivered computer components.

He won't return my phone calls now...
