What channels would YOU pick?

Is there room for a new Irish Pay TV provider?

Does DTT have a chance? Would you pay for TV via DVB-h susbscription on a Mobile phone?

If a new Irish Pay TV service was starting tomorrow what channels would you want to pick?

    Assume a BASIC pack has
    RTE1, RTE2, TV3, TG4, BBC1, BBC2, BBC3/Cbbc, BBC4/Cbeebies, UTV, ITV2, ITV3, ITV4/CiTV, C4, Five and Ireland's Ch6. (Should we add Derry Ch9?)
BBC World TV (intstead of News24), Euronews, Performance, ClassicFM TV, Chart, Vault.

Customers can pick individual channels not in the packs below (The suppliers of which won't allow cherry picking):
Two levels of charge (A or B) for EXTRA channels added one at a time usually
    Cheaper (50c to 1 Euro??)
    (A) UK TV Drama, Living TV, CNN, Bloomberg, Sky News, UKTV Gold etc

    Add which ever extra ones...

More Expensive (1 to 2 Euro Each??)
    (B) Sky1, Sky2, Sky3, ABC1, Paramount, Hallmark .. etc add which ever you think.

Specialist Packs of Channels at a differing prices:
    C1: Setanta pack of channels
    C2: Discovery pack of channels
    C3: Disney Kids pack
    C4: Nickelodeon pack
    C5: MTV Networks pack
C6: EMAP music pack (Kerang etc)
    C7: Sky Sports Pack
    C8: Polish Pack
    C9: Asian Pack
    C10: Chinese Pack
    C11: Sky Movies Pack
    C12: Sky Box office Pack

Suggest ANY channel. Need not be on NTL or Sky.

Suggest 1 HD channel to have as well as BBC HD.

    Suggestion.
I'd add an International Pack consisting of a main national broadcaster's station from France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Holland.

Is there room for a new Irish Pay TV provider?
Is there even room for the existing ones ?
    Should we add Derry Ch9?

What about NVTV (Belfast) or City Channel (Dublin) or that "fifth province" channel from Navan (is it still around) or RLO-TV (ditto) or.......?

Actually if One cut out repeats, teleshopping, relays of $ky News and radio phone in's etc one could probably put together a hybrid local channel from all of the above

RLO is gone and would never get a BCI licence :)

A hybrid best of International TV English or very good program with English subtitles might get a content licence.

Yes, if they can offer a product that is better than the existing players.

Yes, if the government put it out to tender now and stop the delays. If National Grid get their hands on the license it could be a big success.

    No

It would either have to go down the Freeview clone road or offer everything that ntl digital offers and more to interest me.

I doubt I would ever pay for a DVB-h service on a cellphone.

DTT definitely has a chance, if, as Fungus said, the service is sorted out ASAP.

As for PayTV, there is one channel/type of channel that I'd like, which is not available on any national PayTV group - techTV.

Since [.tv] closed some years ago now on Sky Digital, there has been nothing to fill the technology void. And now, more so than when [.tv] was on air, there is more need for a tech channel, with broadband and PC's in general becoming more widespread and popular.

TechTV is the only dedicated tech channel that I currently know of, though this is American. Though I think there is a foreign-language one called E-TV also?

Damn, I miss [.tv] with Kate Russell :) (I realise she's a small show on BBC World)

    E-Tv has closed.
Challenger TV sometimes shows Dr. Dish.

It's interesting, I expected lists of favorite channels that are on Sky/NTL and obviously some folk want something different.

What if the pay channels, some normally FTA on Sat channels and EPG where ONLY available with a Broadband connection, but that without the BB sub you could still get some of the FTA channels?

    Ch 6
    BBC1-4
    ITV1-4
    C4
    five

    Sky One
    UKTV Gold
    UKTV G2
    UKTV Style
    Bravo
    Paramount
    E4
    More4
    LivingTV
    SciFi
    FX
    Men&Motors
    Discovery RealTime

    MTV
    MTV2
    VH1
    VH2

    Discovery
    Discovery Science
    National Geographic
    History
    UKTV Documentary
    UKTV People

    Sky News
    CNBC
    BBC World/News24
    CNN/MSNBC
    EuroNews (with all languages)

    Cartoon Network
    Boomerang
    CBBC
    CBeebies
    Nickelodeon
    Nick Jr.
    Trouble

Then Sky Movies and Sky Sports. And perhaps a few foreign channels perhaps a Polish channel?

What about PPV, or even Porn channels?

My list is in no way definitive!

Ditto for Discovery Channel - it's spread very very thin.

E4, Paramount, Sky One and the Discovery Network Channels.

Have you ever noticed that Sky One and Discovery are never on the IPTV providers line-up, yet they are some of the most popular Digital channels, don't Sky and Discovery license them to IPTV providers?

    Also:
    More4,
    LivingTV,
