I haven't had the chance to get out with my camera at all lately because I've been studying for the leaving cert, and whenever I've gone out lately the results haven't been amazing, however here are a few recent shots:

    #1:
    MG_0836.jpg
A church along the River Blackwater, Co. Waterford.

    #2:
    MG_0904.jpg
Burning off scrub of some sort in the scenic Vee Valley, Co. Waterford

    #3:
    thevee.jpg
Panoramic of the Tipperary side of the Vee Valley, looking out over Co. Tipperary.

    #4:
    MG_0815bw.jpg
Infra Red image of the River Blackwater (Infra Red is only a photoshop effect I have to admit - don't want to have to go to the bother of removing my camera's built in IR filter).

    #5:
    MG_0790bw.jpg
Flooding on the River Thames at Richmond.

    #6:
    MG_0798.jpg
B&W of Richmond Hill (is this one a little weak? Bit unsure of this one).

Comments and critique are very welcome.
    Thanks
    Cian

While the composition is similar to the one with the fence, I was left wondering "And?". At least the one with the fence makes the statement that the fence doesn't stop the water, this one is just another street scene without meaning.

    Sorry. :(

I think the thick black borders, titles and urls really take away from the final images.

I'm not sure if colour would work better for the last one, I guess I don't know what the sky is like!

Other than that, the rest are good images.

Good pix (and framing) of Waterford, I've taken all those shots myself in the past though not in infra red at Blackwater.

Ah yeah, fixed the link now - thanks!
Thanks for the constructive feedback. I guess the last one is to be scrapped okay...

Did you just have the one from that church? It looks really interesting but I feel like everything is too far away at the other end of the room... I want to walk further forward and see some of the detail at the back. It's definitely the most original of your shots - and I'm not a huge b&w fan usually.

On the church again - I like how it's got the light flooding in but the light patch is just too hot, and it's lost all detail of the walls and floor. It makes your eye stick to that area and not be able to wander throughout the picture. I definitely want to see more of that place though.

Of the other shots, I like the panorama the best - the foreground interest stops it from being just another panorama with no real focus.

Just a personal preference, I think the soft edge takes away from the pictures. You could also try making the titles smaller and in grey rather than white because they do detract from the picture itself.

Excellent pics. I really like the Vee panorama. It's prompted me to go up there in the next week or so and try something similar. And, as they say, imitation is the best form of flattery!

Many thanks for the critique, I'll open this photo back up in photoshop and see if I can improve on the blown detail, maybe blending exposures. As regards walking in - I don't know about you, but I can't fly hehe! The perspective is funny, but that photo is actually taken looking right up into the air through the fallen away church steeple. I haven't many more pictures from the church - had to climb through a small window to get in, and the ground was strewn with litter.

Regarding the framing - every photo on my website is framed using this method, it's a photoshop action I made. I now have over 250 photos, so it really is too late to change now! Regarding the text - I've had a problem with hotlinking in the past, this puts a stop to it to some degree.
I agree that for some it might very well detract from the image itself, but most people seem to think it isn't *too* obtrusive. In hindsight I would have changed it, but it's just too much work to bring on myself now.

Many thanks! This picture was actually just handheld. If you are heading up this way this photo was taken on the tipperary side. As you start going back down the hill (just before the black and yellow U bend) there is a big funny looking mound of stones up on your right hand side. Hike up to the top, and there you have it!

wow, I see now you weren't looking along you were looking up. That's cool.

How do you do a batch thingamy in ps to create a frame? I'm getting sick of doing it manually...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,389 ✭✭✭cianclarke

Do you make your frame in PS in the first place? Do you have a copyright notice?
Basically in the actions pallete select record, go about creating your frame as you would normally, resize for the web and when you're finished push stop. Just keep in mind you'll have to make one for portrait shots and one for landscape shots (800 at highest or 800 at widest).
If you need help with this send us a PM, just a matter of fiddling around really though.
