So, I've had my Gmini with about six months now (bought second hand but advertised as never used on eBay).
The past two weeks, I've been having serious trouble. It started out telling me I needed to format. Went away again, came back.Tried the standard steps to fix this type of media player - shaking, deleting library files, gmini.bin file... It only worked with power lead in. Plugged in, backed up all files (12gb) onto portable hard drive and tried formatting on the device. No such luck. Plugged into PC, tried formatting as external disk drive - got to 99% on the PC then error message.
Tried chckdsk in DOS, shows errors but won't fix (says needs to be dismounted). Tried scandisc, did nothing.
Then it stopped working altogether - dismantled it, checked all the wires are in place. Reassembled with difficulty, broke a clip. Worked again, but only with power lead.

So, now - after a week of fiddling, here I am. If I plug in the gmini, play a song, leave the backlight and hard drive go off and plug it out it will work (for various lengths of time, longest around ten to fifteen mintes) and stop working again, back to the usual boot problems symptoms (brief flashes of gmini screen, occasional boot and ask to format, and hard drive start-stop sounds, a decending whine).
What am I to do? I emailed gmini support, but they just told me to send it to their EU headquaters (france) for a repair quote, would not give me any advice (understandable I guess), but I can't afford to do this.
Anybody know would it be needing a new battery, or a new hard drive, or what? When I disasembled the battery and HD the hard drive had gmini 400 written in blue pen, and the battery was 1700 (or 1600 can't remember)mha - are these the way standard parts should be or a sign of a botch repair?

Any help would be much appreciated in what is needed (new battery, new HD, just a simple fix maybe? Wierd that it works 100% plugged in but not at all on battery).
