Who would have seen it coming?Louth, the forgotten county, have had a miracalous season under new manager Eamon Mc Eneaney. This season has been a revival of football in the county, which i think has been brewing for quite some time.We have brought in new players such as Shane Lennon and Trevor O Brien and mixed them with the old stalwarts Mark Stanfield,JP Rooney and co. and the results have been fantastic.

We were the last team in the entire country with a 100% record in the league, and we only lost one game in the whole season to Westmeath, while fielding an understrentgh team.

In the first final against Donegal,we played excellently the first half, scoring freely and dominating the game as a whole. The second half a differant story though,Donegal dominated the midfield and scored a dozen points the second half.We luckily scraped a draw, and walked away from Breffni Park knowing we had thrown away a great lead. The team were surely downhearted at this, and could have buckled today knowing what happened last Sunday.

Players young and old put everything into the game today and wholeheartedly deserved the win.Congratulations to all involved in the Louth set up.And thank you to Eamon Mc Eneaney and his team for playing a part in the revival of football in County Louth.

    James

Well done to Louth, happy to see them emerge, its always good to see the smaller counties winning. How do you reckon they will get on in the championship? what are their realistic ambitions?

We'd be hoping to beat Meath:D If we did that and lost by 20 points to Wexford in the next round we'd be happy:D

Well done Louth. I am happy to see the so called smaller counties winning something. However, call me a bad loser if you wish, but the Referee was the worst I have ever seen. On numerous occasions, Donegal players could have been seriously injured by their opponents while the man in black (glasses) stood idly by. He then sends Paddy Campbell to the sideline for something trivial. Louth's gameplan seemed to be - if you can't get the ball, then try to decapitate the opposing player.

Well it is the smallest county in Ireland! na but really, well done to Louth. Iv always liked that county. It is good to see different teams winning it.

Definitely. Well, Michael Collins' moment of madness in the Ulster final replay last year was probably worse but this was still pretty dreadful. I'm happy Louth won but it seemed to me that the ref was trying to steal the show. Having watched the two hurling finals just beforehand it made me realise why people get annoyed with football sometimes. Frees every couple of seconds and completely inconsistant reffing. Any chance we can borrow a few hurling refs for the championship? :p

Anyway, well done to Louth, hope you retain your division one status next year, that'd be a great achievement. But until then I'll be cheering for you against Meath anyway!

maybe now the senior team seem to be on track, the bitter wrangling that has plagued the county board can be sorted out and resources put in place for the teams.

    Congrats to the Louth boys.

Meath will be the next hurdle and it will be up to the management and trainers to ensure that the players can peak again for the Championship.

It is a credit to the hardwork of the players and the backroom staff for the results that they are showing.

But for now Congrats to the whole lot of them, I'll bet that there is more than one sore head after the weekend.

Aye, well done to the boys, had 10 on them at 80/1 at the start of the campaign  Nothin compared to Brian Brady who had a grand at the same odds
They're lookin good for the meath game, & then they play Wexford or Kildare, is that right?
Anyway Igot them at 50/1 to win Leinster on Mon morning with Ladbrokes (10 e/w) & now they're 16/1 on PP, I fancy them to beat any of those three teams based on the last two weekends.
Dublin should be too strong for us in the final, but on any given Sunday............:D

The winners of the Louth/Meath game get the privilege of being put to the sword by Wexford on 28th May :D

Yeah I saw that Louth's odds had come down considerably for Leinster, I think they will be close to Meath but that Meath will just have to much for them!

As for the final I am not so sure that Dublin will be there!

Maybe you should put up your predictions in the football pools thread!

As a Louth and proud man which over the years we had many heartbreakers to Meath in the championship (anyone recall graham geraghtys last minutes goals in navan a few year ago..what a sickner ..was stuck to the ground when the goals went in )
If we manage to beath Meath in the championship we could live off the triumph for years, the bonfires will be well and truly lit all round the county

In my opinion if we are ever going to do it , this is our best year, Meath are not the force they once were ( but can be dangerous when their backs are to the wall ) .We are an improving team but over the years manys a time we have headed up to croke park with high expectations and then flop on the big stage )

Come on the Wee county !!

Amen to that Andrew, we were singin cheerio to the Meath fans just before that goal went in
I'm working in Dunshaughlin so it'd be great to get one over this lot. Local bookie (Bambury) wouldn't give me odds on the game, he claims that the Meath physio (a friend of his) told him that 6 or 7 of the Meath starting 15 are carrying heavy knocks at the mo & some will be doubtful for the game. They play Armagh in a challenge next weekend, have to spy on that one.

    Come on the Lu

Er, Armagh are playing Monaghan on 14th May in the first round of the Ulster championship, when is this challenge again?

Well done to the wee county.

I cant explain how great that felt as a meath man, the roar of the crowd when it went it, it in navan and all, best way to win a game ever.

anyway 31 years since louth bet meath in the championship, its about time they bet us, most meath people would probably have there money on louth too to be honest, the best chance ever louth have to beat meath, louth are probably the better team in form at the minute
