    hi

is anyone running a 1900xtx ( non crossfire ) on the dell stock 350 watt psu
    if so is it stable?

Its a pain to upgrade the dell psu, only place i can find is pcpowerandcooling in the states and its pretty expensive - around $150 for a 470watt not including delivery. I contacted dell but they said they dont do upgraded psu's.

I contacted komplett, they reckoned 350 is cutting it a bit fine but i really should have 400w minimum

Some people seem to think dell psu's are underrated - not sure if there is anything concrete to this.

If it will run an x850 will it not run a 1900xtx -

just wondering if anyone has tried it...

EDIT : just spotted the graphics forum - this would be more appropriate there

I'd say for the X1900XTX it is unlikely look at these power consumption figures and specifically the XTX edition.

The XT edition is a bit more forgiving but I would go with what Komplett said and your really cutting close a 400W would be a better idea.

Plus if you have more than one HD or DVD drive then that would further decrease the chances of it working.

Is your Dell system for certain a custom job wired electrically or just aesthetically ?

i have multpiple dvd/hd drives so yeah theres a fair load already

cant remember exactly why, ive read into it ages ago, but there is something none standard about dell psus. One article i read said you can fit a different psu into it if you are will to take a hacksaw to the chassis to make it fit... not too keen on that:)

Ive seen other articles that say the dell mobo connectors are non-standard and others saying they are. Even pcpowerandcooling do a dell and a non dell version of their 470watt psu so i reckon there is something different about it. Plus komplett said they have no psu's that would fit a dell....

Ive just popped a mail off to overclockers to see if they carry any

thanks for the link by the way - i kinda guessed its not up to the job
