I had the 400 virago, great bike, it had no baffles so it sounded good, but not too loud. Completely bulletproof, didn't use a drop of oil in 2 years. Looks big and is easy to handle, also it has shaft drive, so no chain oiling or tightening to do. I'd recommend one. I had the 250 virago for a while as a courtesy bike, it was a lot faster than i thought, but had a chain.
The 400 will cruse at 70mph no problem, i took it to galway a couple of times. You will get a sore arse on a long trip, and the tank is small, so plenty of fuel stops. Which is good, cos you'll have a sore arse!

What's the point of having a cruiser and ending up with a sore arse??? Surely the point of a cruiser is to be comfortable over long journeys.

That's what tourers are for. Cruisers are for looking good. Cruisers don't have any fairing, that's needed for long distances. Some cruisers have a screen, but they usually look a bit shíte with screens.
They usually have short suspension too. I had my NX650 for a while and took a go on a Suzuki Savage. I can't believe i drove around on a bike with such hard suspension!
If you don't believe me, take a long distance trip on a Shadow or something like that, and you won't be able to walk! Then do one on a Pan European or a GS and tell me the difference!
