Selling on Ebay

    Hi,
I've bought a few things off Ebay before, but I've never sold anything. I have a few things I want to sell. What exactly is the story with auction fees and payment? Does the payment go and stay in my paypal account or does it go onto the credit card. Also, once it's in my paypal account, if that's where it goes, how do I go about getting it as cash? Do I have to put it back on the CC or withdraw to a bank acc?

    Any feedback appreciated:)

The fees are tallied up and applied towards your credit card every month.

You can withdraw PayPal balances to your bank account, but they charge you for amount under €100. If you have over €100, you can withdraw it for free

You will have to pay ebay a fee to list the item, pay a fee when the item sells. If you wish to accept paypal payments that are funded by somebody elses credit card (the vast majority), you will have to upgrade you paypal account to a premier which will involve paying paypal fees for every payment that you take via paypal. If you want to withdraw less than €100 from your paypal account to your bank account, you will have to pay a fee.

Don't forget, Paypal Buyer Protection means you have to use an online trackable postal service to send your stuff otherwise you leave yourself open for paypal to take money if a buyer decides to claim.

That sounds like a lot of effort! What if you set up your account with the 3V vouchers from PTSB, is it the same? They just take from the CC?

The ebay fees are automatically tallied up and charged on a monthly basis to your credit card. The paypal fees come out of your payment immediately therefore what is left in the account is yours. They have made the paying of fees seamless :)

I am not too up on 3V vouchers

but if you only sell one item, you'll only be charged once, not monthly, right? :)

could someone please also explain how we would calculate shipping costs? I could swear that one time on EBay I saw a page listing how to calculate shipping costs when selling, but for the life of me I cannot find it again.(i have looked everywhere under 'help with selling'. I wouldn't want to have to bring down every item to the post office just to find out what shipping cost to put down.

Can you use Laser card to sell on ebay?

I normally use anpost.ie to guage the postage cost. There is a "calculate the postage" link on the right hand side of their home page

No, you cannot use Laser card to set up a seller's account on eBay. However, somewhere down the line eBay/PayPal may accept Laser but these things take time.

hmmm - but I suppose that means I have to have a scale? though, i suppose that would be true even if ebay had a postage guide too....

i just want to sell a couple of odds and ends, but perhaps the buy and sell is better for me.

Even a small household scale would do. Or in a pinch get a bag of sugar in one hand, and compare the weight. You should get a good guesstimate.

You could but on the Buy and Sell you won't have the chance for potential buyers to bid on your items.
