Am I the only one that feels like crying? It hasn't been formally announced yet, but it seems to be set in stone. Any site you visit will tell you the same thing. If it's true, I think it's pretty appalling.

The only things that have been confirmed is that it will be directed by Francis Lawrence (who made his film directorial debut with Constantine), and produced by Akiva Goldsman who wrote the screenplay for I, Robot.
    Set for release in 2007.

Why do you think that the casting of Will Smith is a bad thing?

He is a good actor, and well capable of serious roles. I think that I will be looking forward to this movie regardless, it's such an excellent book.

He just seems like the most un-Neville type of character. I'd love if he pulled it off, but I can't help but feel sceptical.
Actually there was a post about this ages ago in the horror forum:

I wonder that too, I'll have to go dust the book off to re-read it.

As if to add insult to injury, I saw that Akiva Goldsman has been signed up as the screenwriter.

This whole project has STEAMING DOG TURD written all over it.

Aside from Ali, I don't agree. It would take a hell of a lot more good films on his part for me to ever consider him anyways decent at all.

And if he's wearing Converse I'm leaving the cinema straight away!

Yeah, when Will Smith is in a movie it just puts me off watching it. He's mostly annoying.

I don't think I've ever seen Will Smith looking dishevelled. And I always pictured Neville as dishevelled.

I think this is a case of poor casting. Smith can act, but I don't think he's suited to this role.

Argh. A damn fine book to be directed by a man whose first film was an adaptation that kept little more than character names from the source material, starring a popular but not yet proven actor.

I'd like to see this made well, but I'm doubtful...

He usually plays the same type of character. Thought he was very out of place in I, Robot. Can see the usual smart-alec comments as he blasts the skin-eating vampires or whatever the hell they are.

I have to say I quite enjoyed I, Robot, against my own expectations.

It probably helped that I hadn't read Asimov's book but I still think it's a good film.
