After checking boards.ie ranking in Irish websites, boards is a high 16

    link

Mainly search engines ahead of it and microsoft related stuff, so boards.ie is probadly the No 1 real website after daft.ie and for anyone thats wondering, no. 87 gives a clue to what the most popular (I've said too much;) ;);) )

No. 16 IRISH website is it? Perosnally I use BBC 606 all the time. Its a personal choice. I find boards to have alot of pendantic silly people on it. I doubt After hours is the reason for board.ie success.

I doubt After hours is the reason for board.ie success.

Considering its one of the most active forums, thats a silly thing to say.

But by the same group of people mainly. Google is used by pretty much everyone so its popularity expands beyond a certain amount of users. Mkaing it in fact ',ore popular'

To be politically correct, I'd say 'boards.ie is the most popular message board in ireland'. To be honest :/

    Bebo isn't a message board.

You should probably stop robbing college essays off it because a lot of the articles are inaccurate, not because you'll get caught.

I'm surprised to see boards so high up, it's even ahead of some Aerlingus.com. It would be interesting to look at the figures.

    Concur.

I find it funny that, in cyberspace as well as in reality, UCD is set up way after Trinity, and yet somehow becomes much more popular after a short period of time! Bizarre.

There's not a whole pile of room in that 15 above boards.ie. Bebo has proven that most people don't want to post on message boards, they'd just prefer to stick up pictures of themselves and their cats and post inane messages and stupid pictures on their friends' homepages. I'm not bitter, I just absolutely cannot see the point of bebo.
I think it's just a fad that'll be gone in about 12 months, but I'm sure plenty of people said that about the Internet.
Other than that, I can't see how boards.ie would have a hope of pushing any of those other sites off their rankings.

hmmm, number 37 is yahoo.com.cn. I know it is a search engine so will get a lot of hits but still for the low population % it is quite high in the chart

edit. Also quite a lot of people use googles IP rather then www.google.ie as 66.249.93.104 just rolls of the tongue

Without any prejudice, I would imagine Internet usage is much higher among Chinese and other Far Eastern immigrants than European immigrants. Mainly because it's the only conduit they have for relevent news or content in their own languages. Other foreign nationals have more ready access to relevant information.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,719 ✭✭✭Hal1

It's only a guess, but that could possibly be coming from the google toolbar.

[edit] msn.com is set as IE's homepage isn't it? That could be helping that one out.

Oh say it sister! I'm absolutely flummoxed as to its popularity. I just don't get it - it's some sort of alien concept. I see it in the same way as you do and think "Huh... what the hell?"

Good to see it doing well although personally I'd have thought it'd be higher...

p45rant would be another big one... and lets not forget ************* (EDIT: ha.. it's censored out...)

There are lots that would have been set up as topic specific forums, but have branched out to be more general as well.

Why is it that Bebo is so popular in Ireland? It's like we've just discovered the feckin wheel. Excluding the search engines and Microsoft, Bebo is the number one site in Ireland.

    Bebo ranks:

    Eire: 5
    UK: 25
    NZ: 29
    Aus: 78
    USA: No rank

I'm surprised to be the first one to say this, especially at the end of page two, but...

Alexa rankings are bollox. They're based on people who have the Alexa toolbar installed. And the kind of people who have the Alexa toolbar installed are not the normal web surfer... (to put it nicely...)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,602 ✭✭✭Slutmonkey57b

Very true - anyone with half a brain doesn't have alexa installed. And as for bebo's popularity, it's schoolkids. And frankly, who cares what teenagers think? That said, it's only the latest in a long line of LiveJournal/Myspace imitators so it won't just disappear as a fad.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,216 ✭✭✭✭monkeyfudge

That means a hell of a lot of boards.ie users have less than half a brain... well that explains a lot!

So, er, haha, UCD beat TCD by fifteen places, cos the UCD users are idiotic enough to install the Alexa toolbar.. ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,452 ✭✭✭Time Magazine

It's so cute that UCD have to get proud that they top Trinity in a web search rankings :).

Soon you might even win on the people wearing hoodies front :).

Won't that be lovely, children? :).

Lots of foreign language sites up there too. wud love to know how the rankings were compiled.

Also who cares whether ucd or trinity is more popular? Whats wrong with u ppl????
