QQ facing raise from LAG

    blinds 75/150 MTT

    10 handed

mp1 loose aggressive raises a lot preflop, got lucky a few hands ago when he pushed (j 6) after the bb raised a few limpers.

folded to mp1 who makes it 300. I pick up QQ 2 off the button. I have 2.7k left and villain is nicely stacked 8-9k.

I have had a pretty bad run of things in the first hour and its coming to the end of level three. I want to isolate him as i know his raise could mean a wide range, and the min raise doesnt look suspicous. he put in a 3xbb raise with QQ a couple of rounds earlier.

I decided to raise to 900 leaving 1.8k behind. folded back around, he knows i have been uber tight. He takes time and calls.

I am thinking that he has 88--jj, and many ace-x's though i am sure he would have pushed with ak. He had previously reraised with it. with this in mind i decided to push if it is checked to me.

    flop comes A 9 7 rainbow.

    he checks i push.

i have donkeyed chips away in the last couple of tournaments but was wondering if this was a standard play or donktastic. is the reraise too much? if he bets the flop i can get away but the check put me in a lot of hurt.

does the way i play this hand stink of kk/qq or can i reasonable think that he would put me on a strong ace??

For me this is a call -push on the flop or push preflop.

I prefer to push preflop, purely because he'll probably call you with JJ-99 and AK-AQ. By pushing you're acting like you want him off the hand and he'll wonder why that is.

If you flat call, you allow others in cheaply enough and a rogue A or K could cause you heartache on the flop.

If he folds you've picked up 525 which is a 20% increase in your stack and not to be sniffed at.

but then I play QQ horrendously badly so what do I know

    I dont like the push.
I dont mind calling off my stack here - but pushing will only get called by a better hand.

I check the flop I think.

Your reraise is definitely not too much, you could even make it 1100 here and be happy to get it in on any flop then. This makes it definitely wrong for him to call with a small ace.

Once the flop comes down pushing is OK, I would check behind instead.

true that i would only get called by a hand thats beaten me, but again i think i can get him off a weak ace by pushing or is this wishful thinking. if i check then he is coming out betting on the turn and by calling that, i have missed the opportunity to get him off an ace.

I should have pushed prefolp in hinsight (if thats how you spell it), but i do want him along for the ride 70% of the time!!

    he flipped over a5. nice!

you will never ever in a million years get a player like that to fold an ace

He raised with A5 and call a re-raise with A5, the only way to get him out of this pot was a big push preflop, but you need action so the raise was fine, but when the Ace hit the flop, you were in trouble. If he called with A5, you had no chance of him folding. Just unlucky that you were playing such a poor player.

    I like being unlucky then.
