I have two photos that im in two minds as to whether they are any good or not. So I turn to this forum for some good honest critisism. :)

Taken at the food markets in Barcelona - does the scale distract/detract from the overall image?

Taken at the airport - is this just boring?

First one average, second one good.
The first one, I'd maybe crop it towards the top, so that it's all completely colour. I dunno.
Second one is good. The colourfulness of the person's clothes really adds to the photo. He's just in the right place too... :)

The market picture, I wouldn't say the scales detract but there's a bit of wall right up the top at the back that takes away from the lovely colours of the fruit. I'm not sure if there's an optimal crop that wouldn't cut the scales in half but would still cut out that bit of wall. The fruit with the plastic on also kind of takes away from the good stuff in the middle but I don't want to suggest cropping away to nothing!

The second one I think is pretty cool and the colour that the boy (I hope it's a boy) is wearing looks good against the black. Is it my monitor though, or does it look washed out slightly? The blacks aren't showing really black and it would have much more punch if they did. I'm on a laptop at work so don't know if it's just this thing.

oohhh ya! I really like them both, but the fruit one really strikes a chord with me as I spent years building displays like that in my late teens/early twenties. I learnt much more about colour and form from that than I did in college.

I wonder if there was enough light there to go for a deeper DOF so all that lovely fruit was in focus? Did you see the scale as being a feature of the shot? edit - I think it is a distraction.

Great sense of scale in the 2nd one. You really could have asked for a better person to walk into the shot considering the cloths he's wearing. Really like the strong horizontal line the foot rail gives.

    nice work

Maybe the first one would be better if you cropped it so that the scales is in the top right hand corner of the image instead of the centre where it becomes slightly too imposing.

The second one is cool. I like those pants

Hmm, I think that the best colour in the first one is in the top left hand corner. I'd agree with cropping out the plastic covered fruit, it takes away from an otherwise lovely selection of fruit. At least the scales are well polished!

I think the second could do without the washedout grey tiles at the top.

Well the first one seems pretty ordinary. You might throw it into Photoshop and randomly adjust things until you get a suitably surreal effect. Hah. Actually I have seen some fantastic market photos, mostly of people bartering. You might try for a photo like that if you get a chance.

I like the airport photo, also.
