Does anyone know how I can access the H drive remotely (I.e. at home)

I can get the electronic engineering lab h drive to work..

But I don't know the host name to the general one that the library and henry grattan seem to share and also the mechanical engineering drive..

For mechanical engineering I've tried carnot, mecheng.dcu.ie but neither work..

    Anyone know this pls help..
It's just handy sometime to work from home when all the files is in school and you live far away from college..

I have not been in DCU but in general it is not possible to access internal server shares from home without being connected by some software (VPN or some remote access interface, Citrix).
Even then depending on the setup it may not be possible to map a drive from your Personal PC due to Virus issues. You may however be able to use something like Citrix if the IT dept have it set up.
If you are a student it is unlikely that the IT dept will provide anything other than remote email over the web but it would probably be best to discuss this with them as they may have a remote solution in place.

You can't as far as I know, the only one that works remotely is the Electronic Engineering one. The CA ones definitly don't anyway...

edit: i stand corrected, it's not really possible...

The one in EE only works because you can telnet/SSH into Thorung which they let you do for learning simple Unix commands and stuff. I'd imagine the main DCU network won't allow remote connections unless you've got VPN configured or something

Definitely doesn't work remotely. I'd say that's the main motivation from moving stuff from the N drive to Moodle, tis such a headwrecker when stuff gets posted on the N drive, especially when you're not in college.

Camac is the server name for Henry Grattan anyway, afaik, if you are gonna try it.

Shame they arent remotely available though... would be handy.

Camac is the one for creating your own website as far as I know..

It has 20mb and can be access remotely or through internet link.. not really a H drive as such tho unfortunately

The CA H drives can't be accessed remotely but what you can do is use SCP or something to access the School of Computing student servers, put your files there, then from the lab computers use the map unix home shortcut to get at the same files from there...

I'm not sure if the CSD labs have a similar shortcut (Map Unix Home - it'll probably be on the desktop if it's there) on them though to connect to camac..

Camac is the same as student.dcu.ie - its where student webpages are stored. 20mb's capacity which can be accessed remotely no hassle.

As good as the H: drive, really :)
