Is anyone here trying out for X Factor this year. Just got my audition time in the post...

Is there a general concensus that people that try out for these kind of shows arent serious musicians and are just people looking to be famous?

Speaking as a poor sod in a dead end job..umm :) i dunno good luk to yu i suppose..but maybe these "shows" are the reason no singers are about to join "real bands" and make use of their talent...sure there's more work involved etc..but if your with the right crew its veryy satisfying.

Maybe i should audition?..me and the mighty "red machine"..heyyy now thats a unique idea!!...hey send me out a form i wanna be xfactor drummer!!!!!

    :D ciao' amigos...Baggio....

Im auditioning too Bonnie. I feel intensely mortified about it and havent told anyone. But if nothing else, at least ill have the experience of auditioning for someone in the industry and hearing what they have to say.

I just thought, f*ck it. Why not!!

Sorry Baggio, the closing date for forms was Paddy's Day. Blub, blub! :)

Thats actually given me an idea - those bands that are looking for singers should go down to the auditions and hand out audition flyers of there own and a link to their music online. You're bound to find someone!!

Jesus yeah, thats a really good idea. You'll prob attract a massive amount of weirdo's though!! ha ha

If your artistic and creative dignity, control over your choice of music, clothes, hair, sod it, even your shoes means nothing to you, if you don't care about music and just want five minutes of fame at the hands of machiavellian record companies who will pimp, tout and tour you to the point of exhaustion, sap every dreg of love and energy from you for a few extra cents, if making a quick buck and your face (and then probably your ex and every other partner you've ever had) on the cover of Now, Heat, Closer etc and ultimately your reputation in ruins as a national laughing stock is what you want...then go for it.

All of those reality tv talent contents are nothing but a human meat market.

To be honest, im really going for the experience of singing for someone in the industry - Simon Cowell. Id be interested in their feedback.

I agree with you about these shows ruining reputations and the like. But I dont expect to make it to the final or anything.

I don't mean to be rude or anything but it looks like you're putting yourself in jeopardy of ritual humilation on international tv just so an over-paid, over-rated pundit can say you can't sing.
What's the point in entering if you don't think you're good enough? You won't get past the auditions round with an attitude like that, men like Cowell can sense that type of self-esteem and use it as a chance to pounce and savage you just to boost A) his sneering sense of self-importance and B) the show's ratings.
If you're looking for a professional assesment of your voice why not spend a few quid on a lesson with a music tutor? Why not save up and have a demo made to distribute round the RCs with some nice photographs? Why not go to the record offices and request an interview with the REAL music industry people?
If you'd really like to sing for a living you're gonna have to accept that it's long, hard work and not as simple as appearing on a mockery show. It's been proven time and time again that Cowell et al are not looking for talent, they're looking for clones they can manipulate to make money from.
By all means go ahead and audition but I just can't see why anyone would give a toss about the opinion of such an arrogant, greedy tosser. He's exactly the type of person who makes it hard for credible bands to succeed because he's littering our airwaves with soulless, mind-numbing pap.

I can assure you Brendan Kilkenny is a serious musician!

Only fooling yourselves. So what even if you do make it and get judged by idiots then you're going into a career in which you have no control over and are just a short lived money maker for scumbags.

I for one don't respect any musician that even auditions for that patethic excuse for a TV show.

Would you really? I could put you in the direction of real musicians in the Dublin area that can give you better feedback on your musical talents. Simon Cowell knows nothing about music he's a marketing machine. Get marketing for Dummies in Easons and then draw yourself out a nice profile of yourself to see how you appeal to the sheep market.

Yeah, I see what you're saying. I have my voice trained and I know I have a good voice. I dont think I have the wrong attitude, to be honest, I wouldnt want to get too far in the competition. Why? For all the reasons that you have stated.

I completely agree with the posters who say it ruins repuatations etc etc.

But my point is, I havent had the chance to sing in front of someone in the industry before - be him mean or anything else. And I just may get some valuable feedback. If I dont, thats cool too.

I already have a great demo and the nice photos etc. Gonna get cracking on sending them very soon.

Im just going along for the crack and I dont see anything worng with that.

I just can't see eye to eye with you because the industry you talk about is one of the most disgusting Capitalist forces that produces terrible music and will continue to exploit artists for everything they can.

Join a band, play gigs and have fun with yourself. Let that be what motivates you instead of appealing to a certain audience and changing yourself accordingly depending on what someone tells you what the new black is for the month.

Ag Marbh, thats not what I was saying. I have enough confidence in myself and my talent. Therefore, im not just gonna change cos its 'fashionable'. If I think someone has a point, ill think about it further. If not, water off a ducks back. I may be told something I wasnt aware of that may be beneficial to change. Everything is a learning experience and I may learn something new about myself. Then again, I may not. But I wont know unless I go.

Yes the industry is disgusting, blah blah. But I cant change that.

I already have played and will continue to play gigs with bands. Yes, I agree it is really enjoyable and I have been fortunate enough to work with some wonderful people.

So, basically im going along for the laugh to this audition. Its my choice. And just because you have a strong opinion on this subject, doesnt mean you are correct or your advice is correct for me. Nor does it make me correct. Its just a differing opinion. But thanks for your comments.
