DAA plans moves to tackle summer congestion
    26 April 2006 22:22

The Dublin Airport Authority has outlined its plans for dealing with record numbers of passengers this summer.

More than two million extra passengers are expected to pass through the airport this year.

The authority expects to carry 90,000 passengers a day at peak times and is taking measures to increase space on the departures floor.

Kiosks, ticket desks and the Bank of Ireland branch are being re-located and eight new temporary boarding gates are being built.

The authority is also putting a temporary marquee on the roof of the multi-storey car park to provide a waiting area for passengers who face delays. It will be able to accommodate 1,200 people.

The authority is also building a new check-in area in the basement of the airport.

The new area will have 26 check-in desks.

The authority is in negotiations with Ryanair about moving to the new area which will be operational in December.
