What to do with my new toy at the weekend...?

Okay, I've not been here long (Dublin) and I've just got myself the 350D and am itching to get out and use it. Any suggestions for an outing at the weekend, preferably in the city somewhere - or even along the Dart?

I still haven't been to Trinity - is that worth a look? I saw some pretty impressive monochrome panoramas but that isn't a style I'd be looking to follow - I like the details.

    Suggestions, anyone? Inspiration?

Beaches are usually good for it.

A nice walk through Clontarf (I think...Either there or Clondalkin...always get them confused! The one with the beach!)

You could always head out there coming up to sunset, and get some long exposures after.

Malahide and Howth if you're on the Dart line. I think they might be a bit cliche'd but sure, t'is up to yourself...

you would get a good variety of great shots out at seapoint ... especially if the weather is good

Years ago when I lived in Dublin one of the greatest sights was out from Rathfarnham, past the Hellfire Club and looking down on the city at night. A tripod is a deffinite but what a view. And a short trip....if you are in Dublin. Maybe some evening when I can get myself together enough to get through the traffic on he way up. If anyone does take the plunge please post here.....the memories :p

Aah so now the pressure is on!

Fingers crossed for some nice weather like it is today. I'm struggling to remember whether my tripod is here or in storage back in Glasgow though :(

If I was in Glasgow I'd be heading straight to the West End which is kind of like Stephen's Green with Trinity in the middle! I might do the typical touristy thing in the town on Saturday and see about a trip down the Dart to the beach on Sunday. Last weekend we were up in Donegal and THATS the kind of beach I like, just wish it wasn't 4 hours away...

Does anyone here have some good dublin city shots?

Go to the IFSC and do some architectural abstracts, plenty of details in those buildings.

Then there's the Custom House, but that's been shot to bits by most photographers in Dublin, I'd say :D ...just like the bridges along the Liffey. But they are a good starting point for a beginner - you've seen them in touristy publications I'm sure, so you'll know if you've captured it well by comparing yours to theirs.

    B.

[edit] - Just thought of somewhere else - get your ar$e to the Botanic Gardens in Glasnevin, they'll be starting to bloom there now and the colours will be good. They also have a very inquisitive population of squirrels, so bring a packet of biscuits or something.

    Try Ballymum at night :D

P.S. Bring some guns for protection

I tried the bots (National Botanic Gardens, Glasnevin) the other day and the squirrels are tamer there than anywhere else I've seen. One squirrel ran up a guy's leg.

Is it that you're only new to Ireland?

If you want to join our expedition, I'd say it would be pretty interesting for ye! Have a look at the sticky at the top! :)

Yup Fajitas I've just been here since the end of Feb. Moved over with my husband who chewed my ear for 3 years to come here, and I gave in for the sake of a peaceful life ;) It's certainly been good so far.

I'll have a think about the trip to Trim, I just have to figure out the pennies because I just spent a whack load of them on the camera! It would be good to put faces to usernames though...
