If the rumour-monger mill is to be believed, M$ are apparently trying to pay Valve big wads of wonga to make HL3 a 360 exclusive, but I doubt they would just drop the PC like that, maybe a simultaneous release?

The PC's popularity as a gaming platform has been in decline for years, I would be surprised if Valve stopped supporting it altogether, but I would not rule it out. lets not forget just how big M$'s chequebook is and there's an old sayin where I come from "Money talks"

I can't be the only one who has gotten fed up with the PC Gamers "arms race" and just opted out in favour of the simpler more straightforward convenience of a console that does just as good a job for the price of a decent graphics card? am I?

    Decent graphics card = €400-€700

360 connected with vga to any half decent monitor = €440

oblivion= looks the same, if not marginally better on a v.high end pc, 360 version does have frame rate issues though. Still looks amazing. They had a comparitive thingy on gamespot there a while ago.

Yea but they never compare like with like I wonder what oblivion would look like running on a €440 PC?

for the amount of hassle, expense and time that's involved with running a windows gaming rig I honestly don't know how people can justify it, I used to, but shortly after the PS2 launch, I decided that it wasn't worth it for me anymore, and I haven't had a gaming pc since, actually come to think of it I'm still using the same pc, almost, (added a tv tuner & sound cards) as my "self built" MCE system :D

    *edit*
Your the second person who's mentioned a frame rate issue on the 360 version of oblivion, I haven't seen that yet and I have about 45 hrs under my belt on that game.

    decent graphics card = €200
my radeon x800GT did anyway... runs nearly everything on high. but i wont argue the console thing - it's a cheaper, and easier way to game.

as for the valve thing, i recall reading this and hearing all the talk of hl2 content and css/dods being put on 360, but from what i can tell, valve just talked about source coming to 360... not necessarily "valve games" as it were. possibly other devs using source, putting the games on 360 (sin episodes and the like)

gabe used to work for microsoft! but yeah, him and doug lombardi did an interview not 2 months ago and were asked about the next gen consoles. they were fairly "meh" about it, especially since half life tanked on xbox. gabe said it was valve's "only commercial failure"...
