I recently bought 2 decks of the wpt cards off the net for our weekly poker game.... they were advertised as being the best around, but in truth thet are no better than a pack available for a few quid in the local newsagents..... is there anywhere that ye know of that i could get a decent deck, either off the net or otherwise?

Bicycle cards are best - casino standard

I'd have Copag ahead of Bicycle any day of the week

    Quick one,
What makes a good pack of playing cards for poker?
Would it be the general standards that dictate a good pack of cards for any other card game or would there be different qualities needed?

Would a "standard" plastic coated pack of cards sold for less that two euro-possibly one euro-not do the job-buy a few packs for the same price as one of these "poker special" packs?

Durability is the most important.... playing with the wpt cards the other night, i had to change the deck after 5 minutes because i could recognise an ace....

I will bow to your superior wisdom on this.

Especially seeing as I don't think I've ever knowingly handled a Copag card. Are they the ones with the extra aces?

Basicilly the same factor as a pack of cards for any game really.
Would the reason that you could spot the ace be that someone intentionally "Marked" it in some way?
I've played cards for a long time, mostly 25, Spot and the like, and I;ve found that in generall a laminated pack will do you well so long as players arent abusing the cards.....bending, picking at them etc....Every few months when you notice that they are getting that bit ragged or potentially marked for some reason I replace them with another sub 2 euro pack.

Not in this case i'd say, the card was pretty heavily damaged, very noticable, if someone was marking a card they'd be more tact about it i think...

I spent €40 a couple of years ago on Kem cards. These cards are still in perfect condition despite the fact that they are used every week at lease once a week in our home game. I am pretty sure over the same two year period I would have bought more then 25 decks, as with 10 different people shuffling them it is never long before they get bent out of shape. They are also super indexed which is helpful. The cards are washable although I have never had the need to wash them, and are very hard to damage as they are made out of acetate.

I have tested many types of cards recently.

For quality I found fournier to be the best, quite pricey though.

For value/quality I suggest Copaq, buy them off ebay if at all poss. I got 2 decks off a seller with a store who was from the states and got them 3 days later. the 2 decks cost me €12 incl postage.

The cards that the wpt have branded are crap. they are only plastic coated and only last for 1 game.

I always wondered if Kem cards were worth the money. I've never seen a deck, except locked up in a glass display case. Thanks for the info.
