Dial-up connecting on it's own!

    Hi,

Every time I disconnect from the Internet, My Dial-up connection attempts to reconnect to the Internet again. I am on XP and primarily use Firefox as my Internet browser. It always seems to happen if I download a page like this one and then proceed to read it offline. It is really a nuisance and can continue after I close out of Firefox with the consequence of I having to restart the PC to get rid of it.

I doubt if it is being caused by Spyware or the like as I formatted last week and made a fresh start. (I also have spybot and ad aware installed and did a scan which found nothing with updated definitions) AVG also found nothing if it was a virus. I have automatic updates turned off and I intend to keep them off as I blame them for messing up Internet Explorer which caused the associated Shut Down Problems which drove me to format & reinstall. There has to be something which is causing it to auto-connect whatever it is.

This was what caused me to format

This explains my formatting and the few problems I encountered.

I encountered something similar like it back in January, but fixed it with a System Restore, It has been happening since I Re-installed Windows so I have nothing to go back to. Also the January problem used only ask to Dial, My problem now is it goes ahead and connects the only way to stop it is either Restart or Disconnect the phone lead. I am using the Windows Firewall also.

Any one come across this before??

    Thanks in advance :)

On the desktop right click on "My Network Places” and choose “Properties”. On the advanced menu, choose “Dial-up preferences”. Under the "Enable autodial by location:" section, clear the "New Location (the current location)" checkbox. Make sure the “Always ask me before autodialing” check box is selected, and uncheck the “Disable autodial while I am logged on”. Click “OK”
