Showing hands -vs- Not showing

Been thinking about this for a while. Generally, I'll never show a losing hand, but i leave the "Muck losing hands" box unticked in case i've a decent hand and am horribly outdrawn, but only show it if i've a decent table image which i want to preserve....e.g. I've AK, board comes A K 6 4 6 and i lead out every betting round. Villain shows K 6 but i don't want him to think i'm an A-rag merchant (should I?).

As for showing winning hands, if i'm on the BB and it's folded to me i'll show if i've absolute dog-crap or dynamite (i.e. 72o, or KK etc). I'll sometimes show a bluff and sometimes show a strong hand as i feel that letting players know i'm capable of both bluffing and betting big when i hit big is good in that it shows i vary my play a bit. I mainly show bluffs when i've been getting decent hands and they're showing me a lot of respect, so i bluff, get no callers and then plant a seed of doubt along the lines of "he's been bluffing all along" so that next time i hit a hand and bet big i'll get a caller or two.

    Any opinions/advice/flaming welcome.

Best thing is to never show anything at all. Especially not, when its folded to you as you may encourage people to steal your blind.

The only hand you should ever show down is 72o when you're on the button, raise 5BB and collect the blinds, followed by the chatbox phrase 'It's hammertime!'.

Especially nice early on as you will be guaranteed action from there onwards when you do have a hand

How?........By people thinking that i'm on a run of bad cards, so they'll just try and steal?

Actually scrap what I said about not showing from the blinds, just don't do it.

Advertising yourself as LAG when you are in fact TAG is a bad idea?

I quite like it plus it's marvellously tilt-inducing at the lower limits to show the hammer having forced a fold on a scary board...some of my biggest winning sessions have commenced like this

    my point exactly. Advertising pays!!!

All you need is a disgruntled fish with a long memory....

In the Jurys €150 game on Easter weekend I was such a rock it looked like I was in seat two on Mount Rushmore. I was so tight that if I called everyone would fold.

So I raised with 77 and when the flop came AKx I put in a big bet. The player beside me had a big dwell and folded. I showed the 77. I was hoping he had an ace with a weak kicker, or a king.

Then on the button I commented that I should probably put in a button raise. When the cards were dealt I raised big with A2o. Another big delay and finally the big blind folded. I showed the A2.

In two shown hands I went from being a total rock to being a total messer.

If I raised again what would I have? Nobody could put me on a hand.

    Showing can be useful.
