Cavan boxer Andrew Murray has netted a lucrative sponsorship deal with Paddy Power bookmakers.

The deal will kick into place on June 3 at the National Stadium where Murray fights on promoter Brian Peters' show. Dublin-based star Bernard Dunne tops the bill.

Paddy Power, Head of Communications at the bookies, said: "We're delighted with Andrew's progress on both sides of the Irish Sea. His potential is undoubted and Paddy Power are hoping that our partnership will be a knockout combination."

The talented lightweight, who fights out of St Albans in England, is undeated in his five professional fights.

Murray's manager Michael Helliet said: "This is a great bit of business for Andrew, especially when you consider he has only had five professional fights. Like Paddy Power, Andrew is going places and we think it is a great partnership. It is a sizeable deal based on performance."

As a warm-up for his Dublin show Murray goes into the ring at the York Hall in London on Sunday, May 21 against an as yet unnamed opponent.

The 23-year-old Murray said: "At the moment I am just concentrating on May 21. While Michael is doing the business outside of the ring, it is up to me to do likewise inside it."

Murray is also being lined up to take part in an Irish Ropes promotion at New York's Madison Square Garden in the autumn.
