Tunnelling under the airport

    The NRA seems to be knocking this on the basis that it would be too expensive to do bored tunnels. However they could do cut and cover tunnels (less deep and cheaper) if they tied it in with the existing station void and the work on the new runway and Terminal 2.
    • Commence preparations and construction of west end of 10L/28R.
    • Commence cut and cover tunnel either side of 11/29 threshold, including start of 10L/28R and additional taxiways (not on drawings).
    • Complete construction of west end of 10L/28R.
    • Transfer operations from 11/29 to 10L/28R (short).
    • Complete cut and cover tunnel under 11/29 threshold.
    • Demolish 11/29.
    • Complete construction of west end of 10L/28R.
    • Transfer operations from 10R/28L to 10L/28R.
    • Commence cut and cover tunnel either side of 10R/28L threshold as far as apron.
    • Complete cut and cover tunnel under 10R/28L.
    • Extend 10R/28L.
    • Re-open 10R/28L with left/right operations.
    • Proceed with cut and cover tunnel under surface car park.
    • Demolish sections of apron (note aircraft can use 10R/28L taxiway to access cargo area).
    • Build cut and cover tunnel under apron.
    • Connect to existing sections of tunnel.
    • Build Terminal 2 over tunnel.

    Sounds nice, and I'm a big fan of cut-and-cover tunnels, but I don't think it will happen :(
