DeviantArt,Flickr and zoomr are probably the best of FREE.
Get some cheap hosting and put something together.

DeviantArt is not very good imo. Making your own is the best of all, and flash seems to be the way to go!

    Agreed. Others will undoubtedly disagree.

Disagree. Personally: because of the inaccessibility and other geek issues. Practically: because most people don't have experience with it before attempting to create a gallery and use a pre-made job and/or make a balls of their attempt (Terrible quality imported pictures).

Lol, making your own is the way to go, and a good accessible flash seems to be the way to go!

actually for photos flash would be a bit of overkill, good accesible javascript would be much better.

flash eats up the bandwidth too

Java causes a lot of problems though, at times moreso than flash. I can't even use Java with my Firefox. Some networks block it too, thinking it's a chatroom etc.

Oh no not java, javascript, like the format gmail uses... They confuse often.

    Oh right! Sorry!

If its the format Gmail uses, deadly! That'd be really handy!

Well, let us know how you get on anyways!

I have used photo.net for over a year now and I find the members very good for offering advice on how to make improvements in photos. There does not seem to be a limit on the number of photos you can submit but you are limited in the number of critiques you can request.
