I know this won't be of much interest to all you disk space hungry boardies :) but for those of us with smaller music collections :D I discovered these in the creative shop on ebay.

CreativeStorage Blaster Portable Harddisk 20GB
20gb Portable Hard Drive
£(GB)19.99

I bought 2 and it worked out at €62 incl delivery - should get them by Friday. There is also a 40gb model that is £(GB)44.99. They seem to drip feed them on to the site, if there are none there wait a couple of days and they should reappear.

D.

/Edit: although you buy it now on ebay, you need to phone creative and give them you credit card details to complete the purchase. Its a local/dublin number.

A little bit of editing reveals this to be the working link.

Thanks for the link. I just bought one, it seems like a decent price, even if it is a little on the small side.

Creative customer care people sounded very good when I rang them up to pay by creidt card, so hopefully if there are any problems there wont be too much hassle getting it fixed.

Ordered at lunchtime today, estimated delivery of Friday, which isn't too bad either.

Any idea what disk is in this? Could it be removed and used in a laptop for example?

I'd be very surprised if I had it before next week. Even if they did send it today, the postal service in my area is pretty bad and the weekend is only 2 days away, so it's doubtful. But it was only about €4 for postage, so I'm not expecting all that much anyway.

PC world are doing 60GB freecom external 2.5 inchers for €89. Would be the equivalent of 3 in one package.

And a tempting 340gb drive for €169.

I'd have gone for that, but my budget was only about €40.

Hard drives in general don't seem *that* expensive in PC World, at least not when you compare them to all the other overpriced stuff they sell.

Sitting on my desk when I arrived into work this morning :D

If you google for Storage Blaster you'll find pictures of a terrible looking yoke, but they are the nice silver (aluminium) ones pictured on ebay. The cheapest price for an enclosure on komplett is e25! They come fully packaged with a leather wallet and a dual head usb cable - (although you won't need the extra power connector for the 20gb). I powered one up here on an xp machine and it worked without any problems, 18.6gb free after formatting (I presume its fat32 I never checked). Also has a nice blue led on the front when in use. Didn't do any performance test - I'll check them out fully this evening when I get home.

I have that bigger drive from PC world - I believe its 320gb not 340gb. Its a WD drive in a nice toshiba aluminum case. You get a removable stand. I don't 100% trust externals (heat, delayed write etc) so I always have two - one as a mirror.

Yes, the pcworld one is a good deal, but can we agree that €28+4 (etc.) is also a good deal if for instance you don't happen to want to spend €89? :)

Would anyone be willing to pick up a second for a credit cardless bum? (in the Dublin area)

I ordered one on Wednesday lunchtime, was dispatched yesterday and arrived today by DHL.

Nice size, easy to set up and use and cheap. There doesn't seem to be any more left on the ebay site - tried to buy one for a friend, but they were all gone. There's a 40GB for about £30 thought.
