Can we make a stickie on Channel 4? Just put it up the top and explain what you need to receive it. It would make life easy for new users.

A note in the BBC/ITV tune sticky saying "Channel 4 is not available using this method, Channel 4 is not FTA" probably would suffice.

    Seeing as how you're offering:

    1) Change the title of " How to tune in ITV1-4 (inc. UTV) & extra BBC channels on your Sky Digibox" to include C4 and C5 and add a link in the same thread to info on FTV cards and how to obtain them.

    2) Combine " Please read: Change to the rules..." and "The Rules (Updated) & Warning About Cloning / Illegal Sourcing of Cards" into one.

    3) Add a sticky "Why isn't my FTV card working/activated?" and with link to a previous thread (of which there are many).

    4) Lock any new threads asking about C4, C5 on a digibox or FTV cards not activated.

    5) Ban the person who posted a new thread about C4, C5 or FTV cards not activated.

Maybe the last one is taking the moderator/benevolent despot role too far :D

    Nah..
Obviously most people can't use search of google or boards and won't spend 4 minutes looking if they can use search preferring to be spoon fed.

It's not like this is a C4 / BBC/ITV /RTE /Sky paid help desk. We all do this helping for fun/goodness of our hearts.

If anyone is getting paid, it isn't me anyway :)

The two rules stickys, yes, I agree Zaphod, but the big problem for n00bs looking for info on BBC or ITV or CH4 etc... they are all three letter acronyms, and so, the boards.ie vbulletin search doesn't allow search which contain less than 4 characters. Its been a long time bugbear of mine.

    Google works though

The reason I suggested the other stickies was to remove the need to do a search altogether - the answer would simply be staring them in the face.

Nothing against misfortunate noobs. It's just that the C4 + C5 issue and the unactivated FTV cards has been done to death. A couple of times, 2 or 3 threads have beenactive on the exact same subject (on the same page!) concurrently.

I guess another approach would be to have a sticky along the lines of "all questions on reception of C4, C5 and use of FTV cards go here".

For TLA searches, just add an asterisk e.g. for 'FTV' insert 'FTV*'.

To be honest, if I come on to the boards and someone has a C4 or Five query that hasn't been answered yet, I don't at all mind sticking in a quick reply. I don't really find it irritating at all.

And (you should never start a sentance with a conjunction) it's not a bad way for newbies to be introduced to the forum - if they ask a simple question and get a direct answer, they may be more inclined to stick around and engage in the information-sharing and debates.

Let's face it, it doesn't kill us to give a two-line simple answer.

I think the stickies are more suited to times when we need to give a lot of detailed info (which really would be a pain to have to repeat every time).

I agree with 100% with Charles. That was a post worthy of mod status.

Take for example, Toonarmy. I remember he came on here first looking for an FTV card to watch Newcastle in the Champions League. Now look at him go! :)

Also, if you are a n00b, it wouldnt be appartent to use a wildcard in a search.

Charles you are now the designated respondent to all C4/5 queries:D
