What to buy

I would like to buy a car, between 3 and 4k.

i have no idea where to start. I'd like a Golf or something (the 98 model) bt for some reason in this country they start at about 5 grand. IN the UK they are nothing.

What would you recoommend? Can you pick something for me maybe?

just keep modifing the search for different models or go to 4500 and see whats there and then knock them down to 4000

seats are a bit "bling bling" IMHO and mileage is high on pretty much all the cars here, might try a jap import with low(unclocked) mileage

Mazda 323f gives you the best of both worlds, great looks, and Japanese reliability. really cool frameless doors and decent performance from the 1.5

Ok, and will the jump from 1.4 to 1.5 hit me hard in insurance? I hear that after 1.4, things start getting rough. I'm 25, second provisional

If you're going Jap import, make sure first that parts are easily available, preferably the same as the equivalent Irish models. Sometimes you can't get them or have to pay through the nose.

A friend has a '99 323F and loves it. It's 1.3, and is pretty nippy.

The 1989 - 1994 323f was available in 1.6 litre.

I mean the shape we're talking about. the newer type doesn't even deserved to be called a 323f. bloody horrible. The 99 one fey's talking about must be one of these:

Yes 323f good choice, try to get a good clean low mileage (under say 80k for the age) 1 or 2 owner car that hasn't been trashed by boy racers!

It depends what you want, cheap reliable, good looking street cred etc.

Other cars to look at: Honda civic hatch back (Vtec/vti might be high for insurance)
Toyota corolla hatch back
And the 323f

would you consider Nissan almera? Cheap reliable,
But not much street cred if that’s what you’re after?



Another possibility is NI or across the pond. VRT would be v.low at this age and the choice would be a lot more, and the ferry would be low season now also, worth a look imo.
