is the discussion of torrents (Bit Torrent) a bannable offence?

I just want to know before I go making a proper thread on the subject

it could probably go in the computer forum

however theres nothing illegal about bittorrents. its more or less what people choose to do with them that can be construed as less than legal.

no, unless you discuss illegal activities

bittorent has many legal uses, and in itself is not illegal - and is free for discussion

just don't link to any illegal material or "promote" illegal activities

right, so if one would want advice on which application to use, it would be a legitimate topic?

    just use utorrent

and yes it would be legitimate - and there are many threads already on that subject

    I second uTorrrent.

Started using it recently and it's very good... I'm downloading Linux distros like there's no tomorrow.

Using the search before posting isn't a hangable offense either.

best client, uses the least amount of ram,
    www.utorrent.com

azureus used to make machine crawl to halt then fall over and die
    or maybe it was java

Never had a problem with az, but µtorrent is a nice client for a slower comp

Been using utorrent for about a month now and it's da shizzle!

Piece of piss to use as well and I can get ridiculously fast speeds with it.

I like azureus a lot, though I don't really use torrents. This probably belongs in the computers forum. :) If in doubt about stuff like that you can PM me. I do get PM's of a simlar nature fairly regularly.

What's so good about utorrent then lads / ladies? Maybe with the dual core I don't notice azureus slowing things. It's a lovely interface though.

Some of the things I like about utorrent over other clients:

you can weight specific files so they come down in the order you want.

you can remove certain files from the torrent altogether if you dont want them.

As was said already its VERY low on resources.

Utorrent - very cool & very light on resources - just well written I guess.

Used to use Kazaa-lite (de-spam-ified version), but it was becoming unreliable just before my old PC was retired!

Main reason I find utorrent better than azureus: utorrent runs and azureus didn't. Something to do with opening ports. I have NAT set up, and all, but Azureus couldn't connect to the net, or the net couldn't connect to Azureus :/ Remember the wizard that pops up when you run Azureus for the first time, and it checks the port? It could never see that the port was open, and refused to run.

Utorrent, on the other hand, connects no problem, and can find seeders faster than my previous client (Burst!).
