I was wondering where i could get contact names and numbers for wedding band in ireland? Getting married June Bank Holiday weekend in 2007 and found it very hard to get a good available band for the day. If anyone could help I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks all.

I'd say we could do the wedding for you - pm me and I'll give you details - type of music etc. Whatever band you book be sure to go and see them at least once before you confirm with them.

If you want to get a band you could always try www.ceb.ie - we are on their list. They will be expensive. Better to talk to a band directly than go thru an agent.

TBH - They look a bit naff! (and sad) :-)

Actually, they are probably the finest musicians you will find on the wedding and private function curcuit. Plus, being naff or sad would not make them 15 or more hundred euro a night.

Not really a good idea to slag off other bands just to get yourself the gig, that tactic rarely works tbh.

Not my intention at all. I was simply commenting on their look - As mentioned earlier - they are fine musicians. As I haven't heard them so I can't comment but I'm sure if they are around a long time they must be good. And for all I know our band could look even sadder - I hope not.
There are quite a lot of 'naff' looking wedding bands about who put on a great show. As I said earlier - it's best to go and see any band before booking them. It's not really about looks is it?

my brother got married in Galway and had a band called "The Weightless Astronaughts" - they were excellent - the crowd was up for a bit a bit of craic and so were they.

Dont know what part of the country your in - but might be worth checking them out.

    Well said. ;)

Anyways, back on topic, I would highly recommend The Southern Playboys. I played with them for 2 years and I must say it was quite an experience. They are probably one of the most sought after function bands in the country and as a result are out 3,4 and maybe 5 nights each week. But they are great to do business with and you are guaranteed a great night's entertainment. You tell them what style music you want played and they will play it.

I'd recommend a band called the Big Spoon. Check them out:

I've seen them play a lot of times and they have charisma and soul and they really know how to play a nicely funky lively gig.

McPanda - the best thing you can do is go to hear a few bands. I'm getting married the week after you in June 2007, and we just booked our band a few weeks back. We had heard about them from my aunt (they played her nephews wedding last year), so we phoned them up, they told us where they were playing, and we went along to hear a couple of songs. There was another wedding on in the same hotel that night so we sat in to hear a few songs from them too. In the end, we decided to go with the first band - a crowd called Blue Print (who are from Tipp I think). I think hearing them play is the only way you can decide whether or not a band is for you.

Mcpanda , first off congratulations , second off , we just got married in March and we contacted all the bands on this website for dates where they were playing and for rates , its a very good website , heres a link ,

    http://www.weddingsonline.ie/directory/index.asp

Ive taken the liberty of assuming you are from Dublin , sorry if your not , and the bands in the link are from Dublin , if you want another county just use the link on the left hand side of the page and do a search for bands in your area.

Choosing a wedding band is hard as you want all your guests to have a good time , so hip stuff isnt going to work as its only going to annoy the older crowd who will then wander elsewhere for a drink, for a wedding band you want a kind of a showband type thing, a sort of a happy medium that everyone will dance too on a few drinks.

In the end we chose the Paul Ashford band , who also supplied a DJ for the latter part of the night.

Whatever you do though , dont hire anyone without going to see them first.
