Your level of anonymity

Was just thinking some people on boards dont tell us who they are in their profile, even if they have lots of posts, just know them by there username etc, I mean there is people I would almost consider myself knowing even though i only use their user name, for instance it was only last week someone who I just always prosumed to be a bloke turned out to be a woman, forget who it was.

Do you like to ramain somewhat anon, or for instance if there was a post your photo thread, would you do it. I would, i got nothing to hide. I bet some people
here would imagine me to look totally different then I do.

You are a lad? Anonimity is sometimes preferred by girls, because of the occasional cyber-stalker who wants to turn real life stalker. Had one of those once. Then again, if it turns out that you like someone after interacting on boards, you can always add them to your friends list, or hook up with them off boards. That's how Lois Lane found Superman.;)

Well when I was picking my username I didn't expect to be here long, so now everyone knows that I'm DaveMcG, from Tallaght, and if they were interested by that, they could check and see I go to UCD, and play guitar, etc etc... I have my msn address on my profile and everyone on there knows all about me and who I really am. If I wanted to stay anonymous completely I wouldn’t have put it up BUT I don’t go flashing who I am on here just coz there are too many people.

I like to confuse people. Lots of conflicting evidence over my gender, my opinions, lesbianism etc. Gotta keep the spice!

I'm not bothered really by anonymity at all since there's lots of people on this site who know who I am in person and what I'm all about. That's my choice in the end by revealing my age, occupation or going to a beers. With regards to anonymity, the only thing I have a problem with is when someone else takes upon themselves to reveal your idenity to people. Someone who posts on this site forwarded a thread I posted on to god knows how many people revealing my identity on this site with less than favourable intentions while never mentioning this to me. It should be your choice to reveal yourself and not others.

As for the original posters question, It's up to each person to decide what level of personal information to give out. I don't think it really matters that much on gender / age if you’re only debating or talking about something you share an interest in. Different story if you’re a stalker though. It’s probably better not to know information about people as you're opinion of a person will be influenced only by their posts and not by stereotypes of a particular kind of person. Each to their own in my opinion.

Back on topic, I prefer the anon route myself...Ireland is a small place, I live in a small area, I like to speak my mind on here about a lot of stuff, a fair bit of which I'd prefer not to trail it's way back to my name and address...you never know what's to come in future and all it takes is a quick google, by a potential future employer to lead back to a convo on the merits of class A drug usage or some such. Paranoid? Perhaps...better safe than sorry though.

On the whole posting pics thing, I always tend to steer clear of that on forums too...I hate having my mental image of someone completely turned on it's head by seeing an actual photo of them. That's what bebo, hotornot and the like are for IMO.

I keep myself pretty anonymous here mainly because my celebrity lifestyle demands it. Can't have Joe Public learning of my glitzy parties and my huge wads of cash. :rolleyes:

That and the fact that my life isn't of much interest to anyone here.

Jesus half the people on the paranormal forum have my mobile number! a good few have met me in person, and my picture has popped up more than once. Not to mention my sig is my own website and that has pics too.

Now that I think about it, I am pretty much annonymous. There's a single goddawful picture of me on KYN that was taken 2 years ago and doesn't really look that much like me now. At least I hope not. People might know that I'm a cheap student/bum in Dundalk but I reckon that's the height of it...

So did Simu decide that I should have a Twirl and a Mars Bar for breakfast? If so, he/she (?) is paying the hospital if/when I have a heart attack.
